Hi all - I brought home my brand new 2014 Panigale 1199S earlier this week and loving every moment on it in our beautiful Seattle weather. :)

I've been a Harley rider for years owning two Fatboys, and the Panigale is my first sport bike. It's a never ending rush to ride and never stops accelerating!

Lots of practice ahead for me learning to better control this beast. Performance driving school at the track already planned. In the meantime, winding back roads are lots of fun to explore.

One issue that is frustrating me is some hard starting and sluggish (or even jumpy) handling at low RPMs. Two days now of hard starts of a warm/hot engine requiring goosing the throttle some when starting (which the dealer told me was a no-no). Research seems to point to charcoal canister, but I've been very careful to not overfill the tank which is what I thought contributed to the issue. Taking it to dealer tomorrow where I presume they'll remove canister and also do a 200 mile oil change for me (I like to get fresh oil in a couple times during break-in). Any thoughts from this group related to this would also be greatly appreciated!

At any rate, very glad to have joined the forums. I've enjoyed all the great info here and beautiful bikes.

All the best!

Welcome. There must be many nice roads in the mountains that is waiting for you.

Welcome Kilroy. I too am a new 14 1199 ABS owner. Living in South Dakota, our riding season is just about to begin. I've only put 20 miles on her, but I have gotten her up to temperature and haven't experienced any of the warm hard starting that many have had or have an issue with....yet. With the bike being sluggish and jumpy at low RPM, I think that is simply the nature of the bike. Compared to your Fatboys, the only commonalities are that they are both motorcycles and both twins. The Panigale is 3 or 4 hundrend lbs lighter, along with a lot lighter flywheel. You are going to feel that jumpiness a lot more just because of less mass. Also, this engine simply doesn't like low RPM's. Consider the redline difference, and that the engine doesn't really start to scream until around where your Fatboy would be floating the valves. Just my 2 cents worth. She is a beaut! Enjoy the hell out of her!

Congrats and welcome, I'm also in the PNW area and frequently down in Seattle for the fun of it. Enjoy the new beast and hope to see you out riding.

Be aware your dealer may not agree to remove the canister. After all, it is a crime. You may need to sound them out. But you shouldn't get upset if they refuse to do it. Plenty of threads here with good instructions on how to do it. It's pretty easy.

200 mile oil change would seem to be a bit much. But it's your $200. Do what you want. Doesn't hurt. But at 200 miles, the oil hasn't degraded any appreciable amount.

That "jumpy" handling is just the bikes way of informing you that you need to practice some smooth throttle. It's not the sort of long stroke twin you're used to and the throttle/motor is sensitive and will respond to the slightest of inputs.

I think I described it poorly. Better stated, it sometimes feels bogged down at low RPM and then seemingly gets to a higher RPM setting and jumps forward. But completely agree on the throttle control, "practicing" on the Panigale is an incredible amount of fun.

Thx for the note and thx all for the welcome!

Welcome! Remove the canister and get an exhaust which makes for a different bike.
