Wow, just wow!

Without a doubt the best looking bike ever made in my opinion!

I'm very jealous haha. I can't wait for you to post up your first impressions and comparison between the V4R and the V4 Speciale.

If you don't mind, how much louder (if any) is the V4R with the Akrapovic race exhaust versus the V4 with the Akrapovic race exhaust?

Per your own post, what is different between the V4R and the V4 that would cause you to keep each one of each model?

A general review of the V4R versus the V4 would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks man for your question. The R doesn't feel that much louder than the Speciale with the same system, especially at idle. But it does have some cool unique tones that change throughout the rev range. Really cool.

I'll provide more thoughts on the differences later this week. Hoping to get some decent seat time on the R today.

Also, is there anything in particular you guys want to see or hear?

I'm no youtube blogger and don't have a proper gopro mount to take riding footage. I'll leave that to others. But if folks have some quick video requests, (walk around, revving, etc.) I'm happy to upload some if I can find the time. Just don't expect much. No editing, music, etc. We're talking iphone amateur hour :D

Thank you Sir. Whenever you get around to it is fine by me. Have fun out there.

Gorgeous bike. Are you going to keep the mirrors?

Thanks man. I am planning on keeping the mirrors.

I have the block offs on order.

I'm sure most of you know this but the bike comes with literally no accessories from the factory.

Everything is an extra. With exhaust and labor and California taxes and all the DP parts the total out the door price is close to $56k. That EXCLUDES the SL wheels which I previously had on my final edition.

It better be good!!! :D

I appreciate that information. I'm guessing the bike and Akra race kit with taxes is $50K+. It would be hard for me to justify the extra $15K+ over my V4S and Akra race kit, but I would be the first to buy one if I was in a slightly higher tax bracket. Now all you have to do is tell me how much better the bike is, so I can lust for it without regards to cost.

You're right, it better be good!!! I look forward to your thoughts, and appreciate that you have a lot of extraordinary bikes in your collection to compare it to. May I ask what 4-wheel vehicles you drive?

It’s a big premium over a v4s with akra which is such an amazing bike and hugely capable in all situations. Hard to see the R being a big step up but after my initial 12 mile ride I’m not ruling this out. More to come.

On the car front I’m into Porsche, mclaren and ferrari. Had a lambo which I recently sold and already miss dearly.

Definitely a different tax bracket. GT-R, Lotus Exige S and a Tacoma here (I always need a truck).

I'm hoping you don't justify the extra cash for the R (but welcome your input) as I've already put a down payment on the 2020 S1000RR, and don't want to take a bath on the V4S.

Thanks for your feedback, which seems to be very nuetral, despite the Ducati biased garage.

Alright guys, I just got back from a proper 80 mile ride. 92 miles now on the clock. Here are some initial impressions.

- The bike is crazy smooth. Smoother than the Speciale and very unlike some of the older R's that were nightmares at low speeds and gears. This one is very comfortable putting around town. The shifts are also smoother than the v4s if that is possible. no need to close the throttle to down shift which is nice and similar to the RSV4RF. It's a fantastic transmission!

- The midrange torque is definitely down relative to the S. The R pulls away just fine and strong but from 4-10K there is a noticeable lack of twist. not dissimilar to previous R's. not sure if this changes once the first service is completed. I also haven't really opened her up past 10K. It's crazy that there are an additional 6K of revs to play with. This bike loves to rev. I was cruising at 8K rpm and no buzzing at all. Bike loves it

- at the revs I was playing at I didn't get to experience the ferocity of the claimed HP. I really think you need to be north of 11K to get to the crazy zone, but again there is so much room to play up there. I can't wait to explore further.

- The bike feels much more planted mid corner. Similar to the RSV4 which is just rock solid in the corners. The bike tips in nicely too. more agile than the S.

- The ride / suspension is firmer than the S out of the box, but not harsh in anyway. It's really a pleasant bike on the street, which is surprising. I'd have no problem commuting on this thing

- the shape of the tank and width is really nice. It feels wider between the legs and riding position for the spirited stuff is perfect.

- sound - it's amazing. Definitely not louder than the S with full race Akra but I do notice some different tones which are glorious

Overall, I'm really impressed. everything is just a bit better other than the midrange and TBD on the top end. it feels better in the twisties, lighter, better turn in, amazing brakes (although the S has some amazing stoppers too). I felt really comfortable pushing the lean angles as well. And the biggest surprise for me is how manageable and docile it is at slow speed. Throttle isn't harsh at all.

Oh yeah, and the ducati engineers have done an amazing thing allowing the front end to stay on the ground. I had wheelie control off completely and even without electronics the front end takes a lot more provoking to come up. Again, this could be due to a power band higher up in the rev range, but it was noticeable as well.

I'll start exploring higher rev ranges after some more mileage. I'll also start pushing the lean angles more. The chain on the left side of the bike was kicking up a lot of chain grease, which limited lean angles on left hand turns. Right hand turns felt amazing!

Hope this helps. Post up any additional questions you might have that I missed and I'll try to provide a perspective.

Cheers!

Kevin
