Thanks, was super bummed that I wasn’t able to get it to the track after I did a bunch of the upgrades (northern Illinois so everyone near me is done). Oh well, next year I guess.
Hi, I'm considering getting some Rotobox myself.... How much difference does it make then? Is it so much more than the OEM wheels then? I have a 2023 V4R and I'm considering Carbo or forged alloy but can't decide. I read the carbon Rotobox can crack.... please let me know ... Thanks

This was a HUGE debate when this forum first started. CF will crack, is a tiny bit lighter, forged mags can bend. I prefer mags (what I have) - but if I were you I would go with which one you prefer the look of, as obviously they both have pro/cons.

If I were to go carbon, then- BST's are proven and the OEM choice. Rotobox's two models and Thyssenkrupp's have both had reports of surface delamination, be cautious if buying second hand. Carbon is an excellent material for wheels, its light in the right places, improves braking, acceleration and turning but doesn't handle excessive heat, doesn't deform in a crash (they can absorb a lot of energy but will crack once the limit is reached unlike metal which will deform). Magnesium alloy wheels are proven but its a highly reactive metal, they dont like scratches and dont crash well either, both materials require care so its 6 of one and half a dozen of the other. For general street use the OEM forged ali's are 90% of high performance wheels, it goes like this; cast base wheels to forged or especially carbon = massive improvement and total wow factor, forged oem to mags = noticeable but why did I spend all that money? forged oem to carbon = quite noticeable, I think its worth it.... If you're doing it for aesthetics then none of the above matters.

Good luck in getting Rotobox wheels I could not get a delivery date from anyone in the past for my 1299 . Went with marchesini 10 spoke aluminium Rims in the end.

FYI - BMW M1000RR cost the same whichever you choose. But it was the most noticeable upgrade I ever did to my Pani - I installed the forged mags, and the first ride felt like I had been pulling a trailer!

Are mags that much lighter than forged AL?
No, I have the V4S stock forged aluminum wheels and a set of M9RS Mags.

I can’t tell the difference on track or when holding them in my hands.

I swap them out at the track when my tires start wearing out, so I ride them back to back on the same day often and cant tell the difference between them while riding.

That’s what I’m looking at getting but unsure about Forged aluminium or Magnesium? Which ones are yours? Are they that much better than the original OEM wheels then? The look the dogs but do they make that much difference handling wise??
Thanks in advance 😊👍🏻👍🏻

I think the lightest forged aluminum S wheels were the 7 spokes from the last of the 1198's (part of this is due to the narrower hub vs the 9 spokes). The front's in mid 7's also. I'll try to remember to weight it again when I change tires. It's lighter than the OEM forged aluminum 10 spokes. Marchesini makes spacer's so you can run the pre pani front wheels. The gold color wheels from the last of the gold framed (either 10 or 7) beltdrives matches the V4's gold cases pretty good. I've been running the gold 7 spokes on the clowncar.

Mine are the aliminium ones the mag are a bit lighter but I’m road riding 95% of the time. They are much lighter just by picking the oem and these ones up by hand. My bike feels a lot more flickable for sure. I would have gone for the m10rs mags but couldn’t really justify the extra cost for summer road riding.

Thank you so much for that. I’ve just enquired about the BST Rapid Tek but I’m pretty sure they’ll cost a fortune plus some so forged Aluminium is the way forward… so it’s either Marchesini 10,s in gold or OZ Gass in titanium…. I really appreciate your help and advice mate!! Thanks! 😊

I'm not sure what are the true weights. I read somewhere that the Marchesini 10 spoke in forged Al were actually slightly heavier than the stock forged Al. The post above from Trauma mentioned stock wheels at 21 lbs. but when you go down the list, the forged Al Marchesini (not sure which design) add up to 24 lbs.

For me personally, I love the look of the10 spoke Marchesinis (especially in silver but not sure how to get that color directly from Marchesini, if at all), but I don't want to spend thousands of dollars to go BACKWARDS in terms of adding weight compared to stock.

The Blackstonetek StarTek wheels look nice than their older offerings--kind of like the 998R wheel. That may very well be the lightest option. Still looking for pics of that on a V4.
