Sounds like they are both better (Race and Comfort

Nope.

I have stock because those seats raise you up to high. If your short you may hate them. Im 6' and hated the race seat

You had many people to tell you to recover the seat for a reason.

The 899 seat is great because it is low and has texture to help hold you.

Ok, started looking at seat covers. Still trying to find the right one. If you have any links let me know! This is my favorite so far, the one in white!

As stated in your other post...stomp grip. You think your knees won't hit the tank, they will. I didn't believe or understand before I put the grip tape on my 1199s. I'm sold now. And even talked a few friends with other bikes to try it, now they are sold.

I recently purchased a '07 VFR800 and can't stand how much I move around on the seat. Bought stomp grip, problem solved.

Ordered the stomp grip today. Hopefully it saves me some money on the seat cover lol. We'll see. Maybe I'll do both.

Are you using stock rearsets or the DP rearsets or some other aftermarket set?

I've been told that the DP race seat is perfect combined with the DP rearsets in their high position.

Stock sets

It just raises you a few inches and makes you feel more over the top of the bike.

Race seat was hard feeling, more so then stock. Just didn't like it.

It will come down to personal preference, but many here buy the race seat and sell it soon afterwards. I bet the one I had was on min 3 bikes before it found a home.

I had my stock seat recovered by Saddleman's. They did their gel insert that also has the center of the seat cut out. The cost was minimal; about $265.00, and it cured the sliding around. The seat is very comfortable on longer rides.

Higher seats suck.
Get it reupholstered with something more grippy, will cost $100-150 and get some tank grips for the bike. Don't know how people don't ride without eazi-grip, stompgrip or techspec.

I am 1.78 metres short and have a DP comfort seat. I can put my feet flat on the road and my aftermarket cnc rearsets put my knees in the perfect position to clamp the tank. I am very happy and comfortable with my setup.

personal preference is everything I love the DP race seat with woodcraft rear sets... im 5'9" and reach fine on the bike.. its tip toes if I want both feet on the ground but I don't have to have that so I single leg it. I actuall like the slightly higher feel of the DP seat as for me I can get off the bike through the turns better

EDIT: there is NO correct answer to this question other than what works for you

If the Comfort seat has more traction than stock seat I might just go with that one. If not, i'll just go with a cover. Anyone have the comfort seat here? Does it have more traction? Or are you still sliding around.

The comfort seat won't slip but it does make you feel like you are sitting 'on' the bike, it's definitely higher.

The race seat won't slip and feels a little higher but not much and wears in nicely but it is pretty hard if you are planning to do a lot of long distance road riding.

A couple of people have mentioned the 899 seat. It is a great shape, isn't high, and doesn't slip as much as the original 1199 seat.

I would ask you dealer to let you try swapping the seat off an 899 demo (if only because I think the geometry of the 899 is different so the true test of the seat will be when its on the 1199.

I've had both Race and Comfort but stuck with the Race seat as the best compromise but I just bought the 899 seat before I decided to sell whilst I wait for the new R.

899 seats are great I didn't like dp or race seat too tall bought an 1199 r seat they are grippy but 899 seat is grippy and little taller and more cushion

Try the comfort seat. Better angle, all day riding, better grip. I have it on mine.

simple...

Also, add some stompgrip to your tank.

I put the comfort seat on for one ride only, came in a little hot to one corner with the missus on the back, slid forward and got the jatz cracker caught in the deeper well for the screw that holds the seat in place.....you'd be surprised how difficult it is to see when tears are streaming down your cheeks.

I find the original seat has a better riding position, it is slippery but I use my knee's more to hold position

Does anyone know if the race seat matches the comfort passenger seat? I want the race seat as is grippier and more comfortable with out going too high. But only if it matches my wives rear comfort seat in material and color.

Put the Race Seat on today. Definitely not much softer lol. Feels pretty darned hard. And tall. I'm absolutely tip toeing now. However, it's got WAY better traction. Just taller than I thought it would be.
