Not good at all...

In Italy the general populace dislike bicyclist BIGTIME!...

saw that... That's why I stick to the trails, way too many idiots out there on the roads... Hope he makes a full recovery!

And considering that Giro is held in Italy I would think people would be welcoming the cyclists there...

i have a friend that is reading italian papers and stuff nothing new if i hear anything ill post it but twitter will probably be first to have news.

as the other riders and fans have said stay strong nicky

hearing He has been moved to a specialized Trauma Center in Cesena where he's being operated right now. his head is swollen it hit very hard. they are making holes to ease the swelling. this coming from italian website and translation so not so sure of accuracy

No! As a bicyclist myself this is a wake up call. Always been a fan of him and hope he will heal up.
This is a former bike of mine with his name on:

Probably on a mobile phone twice I have been knocked off by dicks on phones while driving, man does that job for a living then this happens!

Hope he had a bicycle helmet on, it's not worth risking it without these days.
I'm hoping he makes it through, come on Nicky!

Man I r really hope he doesn't end up like Michael Schumacher... as this is exactly what he was going thru.

I don't think this will end well. Hope I'm wrong.

Medical induced coma because of the swelling. People have been in touch with the family so word is spreading. Things are not good...

Terrible luck for such a nice and talented guy. As all I hope he makes a full recovery, speculating on head injuries is always difficult.

Ditto

I have even reached out to some Pro Racers I know personally and they stated they don't know any more than whats posted in the news like we all see - right now at this very moment. As you said though, a Medically Induced Coma definitely sounds bad as hell, but in many cases its the best thing for the patient at the moment. Speaking from experience, I've been in one myself.

Sad news....I hope he can recover and return to racing soon. I've watched him and been a big fan from the beginning of his AMA days.

On another sad note there was a local female racer Kelly Johnson, that crashed and passed away on Sun....such a tragic loss. I didn't have the opertunity to meet her but wished I had as she sang the national anthem on race days and was a talented and accomplished racer who was a champion in a couple light weight classes and also a lap record holder.

Sad week...

It was a sad day Flo. We heard about it at the end of Sundays awards presentations. There were many tears in the crowd for Kelly.

Wow!
I actually recall hearing about her, the singing National Anthem thing rings a bell for sure. Just goes to show us all that our sport is no joke whatsoever ! Even w all these inflatable suits etc can't save you from massive internal injuries or worse, brutal head trauma despite the best helmets on the market! What a damn shame. Thx for adding the additional note Flo / B.

I often feel blessed I'm no longer able to ride - literally saw a guy on I-66 out of DC cut off by a car and lay it down HARD yesterday! He was riding one of those Touring Beemers w every safety option imaginable and yet he still crashed it wicked hard on his left side , trashing it all.

Stay safe out there EVERYONE!
