No more hot butt

Road my 1299s for the first time yesterday.

Jesus, it's ridiculous. Hot summer days in full leathers will suck. Im going to do everything possible reduce this.

Please don't waste your time wrapping the pipes then. People have been trying to reduce the heat since 2012, and very little seems to help if you're prone to seeing it as a problem. The heat comes more from the vertical cylinder than anything - which is why Ducati supplied case covers for the vertical cylinder after the 2012 release (and offered retrofit kits to the 2012 owners). Someone even did a thermal imaging scan of the bike and confirmed that the hot spot is the cylinder, not the exhaust.

Wrapping the exhaust (for this purpose) is a waste of time, and if you have the Ti pipes then you risk damaging them.

I wrote a bit on what I did to alleviate the heat issue and it's very effective. Unfortunately, it's also pretty pricey. The absolute best way to take care of the heat issue is to buy a bike that was actually designed to be ridden on the street and was given the necessary engineering considerations to do so. From a thermal perspective (rider and bike) this one was not. Great track bike. Great open road bike. Dog .... multi purpose bike. Pretty simple.

So the first Panigale didn't have these covers?
I don't feel my bike getting so warm
This is my bike

Correct the 2012 (bike I have) did not come with those covers. We got a retrofit kit after the fact. I never bothered to put mine on, as the heat has never been an issue for me.

Correct, first 2012 Panigales did not have those covers and as you can see from those pictutes, those 2012 have also smaller heat shields around the rear header...

Yes now I saw the smaller heat shield [emoji3]

Great job jht looks really good
Put about 50 miles since complete and no issues
Significant heat reduction, the manufacturer recommends no more the 1/4 overlay in wrap, it will still bleed heat and WILL NOT HURT THE TI PIPE
I am wearing full leathers though

Cool bro have fun on your R

Always do :p

There is something here though that is missing and I have mentioned before. This isn't a new thing with Ducati's. They have always been notoriously hot, the 1198, 1098, 848, 999, 748 and so on. You only have to look at the geometry of the bike, it's plain to see. In fact more so with the Panigale as you are practically sat on top of a cylinder.

998 for example

The newer more discerning Ducati customer seem to take umbridge at this unacceptable fact of life that combustion engines get hot.

Bottom line, it is what it is. If that's too much of an issue and you really can't bare it, there's no shame in admitting that and getting something else.

It's the trade off. Beautiful bike, fantastic sounding, low CoG = exposed exhaust which creates the problem. Plenty of other options out there but they lack the appeal for me. I don't like the heat anymore than the next person, in fact my R's Akra gave me a burn/blister through my boot! But I love the machine and I just won't change it.

It was same thing with the RSV4. In the beginning it got a lot of critic for its engine running extremely hot. And yes, its frame got really hot but it was newer an issue when riding it.

Maybe in if you ride in shorts in Dubai.. I remember few times I took my Hayabusa in shorts in the Lisbon city with 30c (86f) I also complained :)
Now riding in Sweden I wish I could get heat on my hands and cheast [emoji3]

i for one never really noticed the heat. i think its made up. ever sit on an 09-14 r1 thats hot.

Not that im complaining because i love my 1199 to death but i owned an 09 R1 3 years ago and the 1199 makes the 09 r1 seem air conditioned.
