I'm still hearing that a rebuild can work here... They would be replacing the pistons and bearings anyways and have to hone the cylinders as well.... Throw in the extra dollars while it's torn apart to perhaps add the following:

- Balance/Blueprint
- Thin Head Gasket
- Cylinder Head Porting (Or Epoxying in most MC cases)
- Lightened Fly Wheel

This is a great chance to get a "true" 200+ hp machine on Ducati's dime without needing the pesky R badge. :)

Even better provided they let you keep the factory warranty on it!!

Ducati decided to replace the engine. The new engine should be at the dealer next week.

Glad that they are taking care of you! It is actually nice to see a manufactuter/dealer take care of warranty issues they way they should be... For the record, I still think a rebuild would have been awesome! :)

I think the new engine was the way to go, you'll never have to worry that they missed some damage in the enginge.

Might want to ask the dealer to make sure there is an oil filter in the new engine though...

The new engine arrived at the dealer today. I should have my bike in a couple of days.

I picked up my bike on Saturday and gave it a test ride today. Everything works as it should. I had the 41 tooth sprocket installed and it pulls harder as expected.

For all of my troubles, the dealership installed the 41 tooth sprocket/chain kit and the CF clutch cover for free. Also the 600 mile service for this new engine will be free.

Good to hear you got your bike back and all is well!
Good for you on your freebies!!!

Ride safe!
