The Thai assembled 899's are only for the SE Asian markets to get around the crazy import taxes they pay. 899's for everywhere else in the world are still assembled in Italy

That makes sense. I wasn't sure if NZ and Aussie were included in that.

I actually felt the Yamaha love today myself . I went and dropped off my SuperDuke to the KTM dealer and thought I would walk home .
On the way I dropped into the Yamaha dealer to have a squizz at the new R1m they had a black bike there and s blue bike .
Walked in the door and there were 5 salesmen standing in a circle just talking not even a hello or do you like the bike ...... nothing from any of them .
So I look at the black bike and think it's nice still nothing walk a little closer to where the blue bike is still not a word from one of them .
Go and walk out the door and still nothing at all I was the only one in the shop .
At least your guy spoke to you Brad .

I feel you. I went into a dealer that had two R1M's, one was sold the day before and the other was for sale. I asked the salesman how much for the RM1? He said he couldn't tell me I said what? you sold the other one yesterday and I have cash in hand and I want to buy this one right now. The salesman said trust me you don't want to buy this one because his sales manager and his team was in a meeting all day and trying to set the price North of $30K USD. He said he worked there for 11 years and never seen anything like this price gouging. He told me to go to this other dealer who is selling it at MSRP $21,990. I said just for kicks how much for the R1's he said $20K with disbelief. I said "for a ....... Yamaha?" He said but the other dealer is selling it for $16K.

Now I have heard everything!

Couple of days later they reduced the R1 to $16.4K and still cant come up with a price for the R1M. Found out that a lot of dealers back out of the 250 that was built and there is a small window in the US to get one

Spoke with my local dealer (sales manager) about the new incoming R1 and told him I was seriously in the market and that I was debating between the R1 and 1199/1299. He proceeded to tell me that they were all sold out, needed a deposit, that they are the largest yamaha dealer in florida, etc. I told another sales guy to call me when the bikes arrive so that I could take a look, and I got the call this week. Went in and they had two black and two red r1's...NONE of which were sold (already starting out on the wrong foot). The new salesperson told me FULL MSRP only. So much for them all being sold out. It is frustrating that most dealers are the same.

Father is also included on this purchase and we've decided to go with the duck...for a number of reasons...ONE being that they actually allowed us to test ride the 899 and 1199S. I don't understand why none of the japanese bikes allow test/demo ride with a lead rider. 1199S I test rode was $25,000, while the R1 is $16,500 and they won't allow a test ride and won't take a penny off MSRP. Good luck to them, I wish them the best, but forward thinking garners results. FYI I've negotiated a 0 mile 2014 1199S down to $18,500 and will likely pick it up this weekend.

In some ways I wish he had not spoken to me. He told me that Australia only got 100 R1M and they were all bought by collectors who will put them in lounge rooms and not ride them. He also said the only difference between the R1 and R1M was the carbon fairings. I think he was full of crap.

BTW I saw a very nice 1978 Black and Gold 900 SS at 42K only lasted a day on Bike sales and got sold. You didn't buy it did you ?

Worst thing about buying bikes is the .... tards you have to deal with, i simply do not engage them these days, sales and accessories! I remember years ago we were looking at a bike to have a bit of fun on two up ( blackbirds/busas/FZ1's etc) and got into a "discussion" about the suspension on the blackbird....the sales guy was adament it was fully adjustable suspension as he just came from a honda dealership.........!! know your product, it aint hard!!!

All to collectors my arse, I know two guys here in Brisbane who have bought them to ride the fuckers, I'm sure a few people know a few people who bought one....there goes half of them

It is true usually at Ducati shops the guys working there love bikes and follow racing, if they didn't race themselves. I e been to Dutchess Rec. Vehicles over the years, they sell every Jap brand bike. I've never been in there and felt anyone gave a .... or knew more than the guy trying to buy the bike from them.

Been to Rockwell cycles over the years and everyone from Nick, the owner, to the guy down stairs at the deli making sandwiches knows and loves bikes! And that my friends is why I stick with Ducati.
