Is anyone here doing their own oil changes? I saw a thread that wasn't about oil changes but had some info about it. I'm picking my Panigale up tomorrow night and after I learn how to change the oil at the 600 mile mark I'm considering creating a video on YouTube about how it's done. On that note another question: I'm looking for a good oil and although I know the instruction manual says to run Shell, I've heard so many good reviews on Mobile 1

That I'm looking at that as an option. Any advice from the wide array of experience we have here on the forum would be much appreciated.

Ha, actually I meant I'll probably just ask the dealer to let me look on and learn how to change my oil as he does it during the service.

slick topic

Very broad topic of discussion here my friend. Mobil 1 is certainly a good choice, as they have been around for many years successfully. Use it in wifes Lexus.

Unfortunately, this Ducati has a more involved oil change process due to the location of its filter which is more of a bitch than any other model. From watching it done at dealership, and doing one myself, its a much messier pricess than before. I'd say removal of at least one side panel is beneficial, if not required. Oil drains out in a different method. For all the true gearheads out there its a sure challenge but for anyone new to it I'd vote for letting a dealer tech take care of this for you. Its well worth the money going this route.

As stated, hugely vast selection of liquid to choose from like any other machine. Lots of personal preference here and debatable benefits to them all. You really can't go wrong with any quality synthetics out there and def don't buy a generic filter! Its a slippery slope to get into beefs in which is better than the other, so take it all with a grain of salt and just hope you're lubed well if your dealership has a high labor rate, or can tell you are clueless. Enough irony included? :)

Thanks for the intel Gunny. I did find it ironic another SNCO of Marines responded. Small world. :)

It's too soon to put synthetic oil in your motor. Wait until about 1500 to 2000 miles then do it.

Here we go:confused:
How do you know that the factory fill isn't "synthetic" oil?

I cannot answer that question, however, my local dealer recommended and almost had to force me to take some cheaper non-synthetic oil to use for top ups before the first service. It was after then he suggested the better stuff. Me being me had to be convinced by the dealer it was the right thing to do.

I am sure that was also the case with previous sports bikes I owned, certainly my 'blades.

The bike came with synthetic in it. You're only supposed to use synthetic oil in this bike.

Um, thats a negative Ghost-Rider-I mean Dog. It did NOT come with it unless you bought a used bike.

That's a positive on the full synthetic. It DID come with it unless you bought a used bike and they didn't know what came in it. Suggest your dealer take a look at the manual before working on your bike...I know I would if they tried to tell me otherwise.

-- isn't that a basic bit of advice ! ;)
