My bike is heading to Ferracci in the AM. But I just wanted others to have a heads up for this to watch out for.. Somewhere along the right side magnesium cover there is a leak on my bike and a ton of heavy flakes and chunks of metal in the drain pan today after my oil change.. keep an eye on your bike.. I'll keep it updated as always..

Base 1199 14' 3900 miles on the ODO.

Reflection of the clouds?? With a couple of metal bits in the oil perhaps

My bike is actually in the shop for this leak. Same spot. They thought it was the heat exchanger but after replacing it I was still getting and oil leak. I cleaned the f out of it and monitored the leak and found that it's the clutch housing leaking at the seal.

Now go to find out that Ducati doesn't even recommend using the grey sealant but to use black, yay, right?! But having seen you have the black sealant. I'm in a wtf mindset.

I'm actually waiting to just replace my clutch with the STM dry clutch kit. I decided to treat myself with some tidbits for Xmas. Unfortunately, I'm still waiting for the damn thing.

I forgot to mention, that not my normal Ducati tech was working it. And oil was overfilled when I got this leak. Luckily for me I didn't see any other leaks due to overfill and pressure. I drained a bunch of excess oil but the damage was done. It's all getting cared and it's still winter so I'm cool.

Hmmm, can you explain the last picture (what/where/what's the white stuff)?

lol. Sorry.. The white hazy stuff is the reflection of the clouds.. those 2 big pieces are metal and plastic.. there are a total of 28 decent size chunks of metal in the bottom of the oil drain pan.. And all that shiny stuff is metal shavings..

Thanks Mike!
Ohhh, do you have still warranty on your bike?
If yes, I would force them to open the engine. There could be something wrong :(

Plastics particle: could it be one of the mysterious parts mentioned in multiple posts here? Otherwise it must be a part of a teeth of the oil pump gears. Easy to replace and no harm to the engine.

Oil leak: easy to fix, can be done while checking the oil pump gear.

BTW: nice to see such a clean bike :)
Interesting bolts you have fixing the front exhaust slipon holding bracket. Havent seen this before...

good looking out! In regards to the post above about the clutch housing leak. I had the same issue on my '12 1199s. had to wait for ever on the parts, but the dealer repaired the leak and the whole cover at no cost. sometimes they do it right... but not always

Yessir I still have 1 year and one month on the warranty. I was wondering if I should have them rip it open. Thx bud.

Strange... sealing this needs no parts at all, just Threebond.

Great, still on warranty and winter time :)
I'm very sorry that this happened to you. Maybe my concern is completely untenable. I've never seen this metal chips in the oil of a Panigale. Hopefully its something really stupid.

One good thing: since the particles are still floating in the oil, they are not picked up by the oil drain plug magnet. So they are aluminium (please check with a magnet). So no really mechanically important/stressed parts will be involved.

I've had leaks from both the front and the rear valve cover. Check those as well.

Oh man, I've had it leak at the seals from the back cylinder a couple years ago. Had to have the whole engine get torn apart cleaned everything up and resealed. That made for a great start to a season.

Yes of all the pieces 28 were picked up by my magnetic tool.. And there was a few pieces on the drain plug as well as alot of shavings on it..

My bike has leaked since day 1 basically.

I should probably get it thoroughly looked at one day.

I wasn't that familiar with the bike at the time, but they gave me the used cover when I picked the bike back up... it is strange but whatever, I'll take the new cover.
