Oil sump

Brilliant!

Thanks for that.

Going to make one of my own now. Even if it is just a temporary fix until Evotech etc release one.

Tyberzann: I also wanted to order the Desmoworld version but noticed the minimum spend due to the Brexit changes (I don't think they have registered with the UK VAT system). I was going to order 2 of them and sell the other one on but the order will get hit with customs/VAT/courier handling charges when it arrives which will bump up the cost further. A rough calculation works out around £108 for each.

Think I'm going to make myself a temporary one for the time being.

I've been in touch with Evo tech as well and they are hoping to release a product to market in around 4-6 weeks that will protect the Oil sump.

Hi Guys,
as far as we see, all UK boxes with just 2 oil pan guards inside get trough without any customs actions/surcharges. For each box we fill out all documents 100% correct.
All bigger boxes ( for example 5 guards) go to customs and had to pay surcharge/taxes.

Looks like they take care only about bigger sizes or maybe over £200. Not sure there criterias.

Cheers
Chris

Anyone open to fabricating a cheaper solution that the desmo? I am open to purchasing.

Bump, if anyone is open to making me a guard, please PM me a price shipped to 07073 (New Jersey, USA)

An alternate option, albeit costing a little more coin

That's a great idea... Protects the entire underside. Takes away from the naked aspect, but provides a level of protection. The next user complaint would be damage to those fairings haha.

I know right [emoji23]

I think it’s a nice looking piece. I wouldn’t mind if it didn’t extend so far back and it’s interesting how they incorporated the lower rad surround. Fullsix even mention that it fits with most exhausts.

I’m interested in trying this out but hoping it won’t add much heat to the experience.

I ended up moving to the DesmoWorld piece for the long term- it's pricey but well made, and it has an angled face to to effectively slide any obstruction past the sump. The folded metal guards are going to minimize the debris chips and probably eliminate cracking from that, but if you smack it hard enough you may still damage the case.
I also ordered the TrofeoDesigns oil filter cover to replace the OEM, the factory one is .... engineering and is way too difficult to remove effectively.. my first thought was to tap the OEM through holes up to about an 8mm so I could use brass-tipped jacking screws to evenly press it off. But the Trofeo unit has a removable pin to grab which is arguably quicker and more refined. The new issue will be machining reliefs in the underside of the DesmoWorld guard so it clears the Trofeo pin loops, but when all said and done it will be pretty slick and much more attractive to see and service.

Finally had time to complete this, came out pretty nice. I'll be able to reinstall the Desmoworld sump guard until it's time for an oil change (another 500 mi) and that will be the only time I will have to fight with the OEM oil filter cover ever again. This type of thing isn't exactly exciting, but it solves a two-tiered issue on this part of the bike and makes maintaining it far easier. I'm also switching to stainless hardware as this section of the underpinnings will see lots of exposure and the torque on the cap screws is only 10NM.

If any of you know a competent machinist or have the capability yourself (like me), I used a 10mm carbide ball end with a 1.25mm plunge and it fits the profile perfect. Has to be dead center on the guard to align and fixturing is interesting because of the shape- I used an adjustable parallel set to 20mm (the offset in height from the short to the tall side) and blocked above the flange with a chunk of aluminum to square it up in the vice.

Oil change completed at 2540 mi. (+3 track days) & new filter cover/guard combo installed with stainless hardware. Guard is already getting beat up so it is doing its job.
I plan on oil changes at 2500 mi. intervals to be cautious and wouldn't want to deal with the OEM cover more than once.. oil changes take long enough as it is.

If anyone plan to order the desmoworld oil pan guard, but need the 2 grooves to combine with the TRO Cap just send a email. Its possible to get them as a special order :)
