Lets admit it. Most of us bought this bike because we thought it was gonna be the $h!+ and we are too proud to admit that we were tricked into it. That being said, as made in italy said, i wouldnt change mine for the bmw. Not because of how it looks in comparo but rather because of brand loyalty and the way it makes my trouser snake drool when im riding it.

I wasnt tricked into anything......and I wont buy ANYTHING that is not pleasing to my eyes and I pay that much money for. Besides, I can barely get mine out of 3rd gear on the roads around my immediate area and keep my license at the same time so who cares? The bike has plenty of power for me. Love it. Best bike purchase I ever made. And I have a base so not much difference in cost to a Beemer either. No amount of money will make the S1000 as beautiful as the Pani!

I watched this YouTube video of a drag race with a Honda Civic (juiced up) and a Dodge Viper. The Civic ends up smoking the Viper. Even though embarassing as it probably was, The loser was still driving off in a beautiful Viper.

I was riding R1's and CBR 1000rr's before I bought my 848. It wasn't as fast as the others bikes but it had more heart. That is why I ride Ducati.

Not here. I put a deposit on this bike last Sept before any specs were released, before it even debuted. I was all ready to buy an 1198s and stopped as soon as I heard whispers of a new superbike. As great as the S1krr is, I (like most) can't get past that upper fairing. For 2012 that's what BMW should have changed first.

I don't care.

It's just the same as when chasing Blades and R1's on my 996. It just makes it more satisfying when you get by them.

Loving the Panigale.

I wouldn't trade mine for any other bike because I wanted the rare exotic head turner and not the same .... you see riding down the road everyday. I feel there isn't a more sexy bike out there today and would I really notice a big difference between the Duc and BMW performance wise... NO I think not. But I'll admit it would have been a nice bonus to be on top of the the superbike charts.

Just my 2 cents...

The BMW is the most bad ass (in terms of power/performance) liter bike on the planet.

The Ducati is one of the sexiest 2 wheel vehicles ever made.

Choosing either makes perfect sense depending on what you want.

I was tricked into nothng. I test drove both bikes.

Why I CHOOSE to ride a Ducati? If I have to explain...

Ok cool, I understand. BTW you don't have to be rossi to notice the difference in ease of ride and outstanding performance. Either way, I guess I used the wrong terminology when I said "tricked into" instead I should have said we got caught in the hype and followed with blind eyes.

I still think there is something wrong with the test riders and that the panigale should be able to almost keep up with the bemmer, not get its ass raped. In the end it would be better if we all took it like men and accepted that the Bimmer, as ugly as it is, is an awesome bike and just compliment them instead of trying to make ourselves look better because our bikes are prettier. Why not focus on making our bikes better (if you really cared about it)? Every day ducati seems to be becoming the harley of sport bikes.

Anyways the panigale will always win the race because its prettyness makes it faster than anything else on the road. End of story.

Man, are you serious? I don't even know why I am responding to this utterly ridiculous statement. How the hell can you compare Ducati to Harley? Harley has not had a new idea in 50 years. Change the seat add some chrome, blam! You have yourself a new bike.
Panigale is a ground up engineering and design marvel.

I love the bike more each day. Sometimes forums are full of wonderful people and useful information and other times ...

Sorry I didnt mean to be an ass with my comments, just give a different point of view. The panigale is the best bike ive ever had I am really happy with it. Especially after taking it to the track. When I mentioned ducati as the harley of sport bikes didnt mean to offend the bikes but rather how SOME people just buy ducati because of the lifestyle and perks it brings as a unique piece of art rather than the riding itself. It is a very good ride nontheless so I might as well shut up.

Just viewed the vid and got this to say:

If they tested a stocker without setting up the suspension I can understand their point. On my base, the forks were way too stiff and the shock too soft! I had 18mm sag up front and 35 at the rear. My lap times improved more than a full second after adjusting to 38mm front and 25 rear sag.
Got almost another second from chucking the stock tires for SC's.

Entirely different bike now.

I find all the negativity strange. In general the BMW has come out better in the comparos, but Bostrom lapped quicker on the 1199S in the CW comparison. His quote "the Panigale has one of the most incredible motors ever built".
I had a 1098 and yes, it had more mid-range, but in every other way the 1199 is a better bike IMHO.....

QUOTE]

These are good news! See I think the reason the pani lags behind in the comparos is due to rider inexperience with twins. I consider Bostrom a more credible source than these two in the video. What this tells me is that in experienced and professional hands the panigale has more capability while us average riders will be able to extract better lap times out of the BMW.

How many of us bought our bikes to extract better lap times? It boils down to how you feel about the overall package.

I am coming from S1. With about 15K in upgrades - i never got to love it. It lacked character. Probly because the StreetfighterS it replaced had so much of it. So i sold it with only 4k miles on it. The ESA never worked correctly, and i got tired of constant vibration. I didnt get PaniS for its track cred. Kids on SV650 will leave me in the dust on the track just because they have 10 times my experience. But there is something i am very good at. No engine required. Come fly with me!

Well no point in discussing this anymore since it turns out that I will always be wrong. I am just trying to get support and maybe other opinions on why the panigale is an exceptional bike but all I am getting is "the bike is super beautiful! Who cares" answers. And I do care...
