but Bostrom lapped quicker on the 1199S in the CW comparison. His quote "the Panigale has one of the most incredible motors ever built".
QUOTE]

These are good news! See I think the reason the pani lags behind in the comparos is due to rider inexperience with twins. I consider Bostrom a more credible source than these two in the video. What this tells me is that in experienced and professional hands the panigale has more capability while us average riders will be able to extract better lap times out of the BMW.

How many of us bought our bikes to extract better lap times? It boils down to how you feel about the overall package.

I am coming from S1. With about 15K in upgrades - i never got to love it. It lacked character. Probly because the StreetfighterS it replaced had so much of it. So i sold it with only 4k miles on it. The ESA never worked correctly, and i got tired of constant vibration. I didnt get PaniS for its track cred. Kids on SV650 will leave me in the dust on the track just because they have 10 times my experience. But there is something i am very good at. No engine required. Come fly with me!

Well no point in discussing this anymore since it turns out that I will always be wrong. I am just trying to get support and maybe other opinions on why the panigale is an exceptional bike but all I am getting is "the bike is super beautiful! Who cares" answers. And I do care...

you must be in the express-express department of FedEx, hm?

I have to say, as a german, who once did an internship at BMW Motorrad, i initially tended to get the BMW, but having ridden/owned only italian motorcycles, i just couldn't make the step to an I-4 engined, cross eyed rocketship... Although may guys i know are racing the S1000RR and are truly amazed. So i started looking at the 1198S, but decided to wait half a year for the 1199. Never tried the BMW. No urge at all.

all i say is, the s1 is the one i had for 2 years and 12000 miles and the panigale s is the one i have, now for 2500 miles and there will be no way back!

the bmw made me frighten sometime,
the duc makes me smile all the time,
even just looking at her after the ride!

I really must say that when I rode the BMW it felt like a CBR on steroids and that was part of the reason I didnt like it. It felt composed and perfect in every sense. No character whatsoever. The deciding factor on the panigale was the way the engine reved and the lighnes and flickability of it. It has tons of character like my beautiful italian fiancee whos a bitch.

I friggin love my bike, and it is definitely the best bike ive ever owned but then again seeing how it keeps getting bashed sorta makes me feel crappy. I test drove the bmw and it was one of my options but I didnt like it. Maybe because I couldnt go past 8k rpm while at it but it felt big and bulky.

I know this has been discussed to death but it is dissapointing how ducati advertised 195hp and it delivers 158whp?? Bmw says 193 and they get 178whp? Something is fishy here.

1.4 second difference a lap!?!?! REALLY! That is quite a lot...

I dont think its really 193 at the crank. At 15% loss it would be around 165 HP. Its likely putting out around around 200+ HP.

The 1199 is a great bike...the Ducati marketing machine really didn't have to over hype the numbers and try to tell people the bike is something that its not. But I guess that's what marketing departments often do.

The biggest problem with these comparisons is the lack of data/knowledge base on how to properly setup the suspesion. Once we have this sorted, then it'll be a completely different story. Rest assured, next yrs comparisons will be much different;) Cheers

The facts are they said it would beat every bike 'checkmate'. Turns it didn't. But bike is still fantastic and still my first choice of all current bikes.
They seemed to get all the specs right and the only one that seems a little fishy is HP. I don't need another 10RWHP, but I sure wouldn't mind it free of charge.
I agree the bike is beautiful, but that is only one part of my buying decision.

I think the power band is fine. If you are hauling ass, keep it above 8K, if you want to go quickly, keep it a little less. Learn to ride the way it puts out power.

I do think many Ducati riders are posers. Everytime I leave someone behind, they are suprised to see someone fast on a Ducati. Facts are many Ducati riders worry about looking the part more than being the part. Same goes for high end sports cars.
Even on this forum, you see people buying $30K bike and adding thousands, sometimes many many thousands more to make it prettier. They still ride like .... and are slow in most cases, but it is their right and their money to spend.

:D... motorcycles themselves attract a lot of posers, add some prestige to the brand and forget about it. Its their money and they spend it how they please though. Sometimes it seems a little silly to have the best looking pornstar on the block and never taking her to bed.

My advice......dont marry a bitch. I did and guess what? After 25 years she is still a bitch. But I love my Pani......

I don't see anything wrong with this, people buy motorcycles for many different reasons and who's to say that taking a beautiful Italian superbike and making it better, is wrong? It's not why I bought my Panigale, I enjoy its provocative alluring good looks, but it wouldn't win any beauty parades; its covered in crash protection and the rear tyre is all messed up :D Can we not all belong to a broad church that is a love of motorcycles and motorcycling in equal measure.

As for whether the 1199 or the S1000RR is a better bike, there is only one review that really counts, your own. If I said I would give you a brand new S1000RR for your Panigale, would you really hand over the keys, 10bhp more or not? You made the right decision, stop stressing.

This girl will cook and clean without complaining, can solve a rubiks cube in 13 seconds and is a cheap date. Clearly, though she lacks bilateral symmetry, has saggy ....s and no ass.

This girl speaks little English and has a hot temper, hates to cook and clean (but when she does she wears lingerie) and wants to be spoiled.

Which one do you want to ride?
