Consider using PLEXUS spray

+1 it's great stuff, but not that easy to get hold of in the UK.

You don't want wax underneath the paint protection kit though. Use Plexus to polish it afterwards, or clean it of with methylated spirit after polishing and before applying a protection kit.

I'm getting the Tankslapper kit for the tank only until I figure if I'm going to get race skins or not. In the mean time does anyone know if its possible to have a painter add additional clear coats to protect the paint better? Not sure if its possible to add after the base paint has cured.

I'm sure they could, provided it was prepped correctly.

Available through amazon but its about £18 a can!

But for the price of this bike shouldn't the paint be upto the job without sprays etc?

I use this stuff on all of my bikes, irrespective do the paint quality, but yes the paint could be better. The finish is good, it's just not that durable. Protect it, again as I do with all my bikes, and it will be fine.

A small can of Plexus Plastic Polish should be more than enough to do the entire bike. It should prevent small scratches, etc. Make sure you use a Micro Fiber cloth and no paper towels. Other than cleaning Plexus will leave a protective sheen on all surfaces.

It is in my own humble opinion well worth the money.

Having just primed, painted and clear coated the race skins on my GSXR you could add more clear coat but you'd need to wet sand it down first add more clear coat then wet sand out carefully with 2000 and then use compound and finish it off with a good wax. It's all in the prep!!
I ordered my Tankslapper 3M this weekend. Used it on all my bikes and it's good stuff.

I use plexus on the perspex screen on the BMW R1150LT. Great polish and good for plastic too but it won't provide a greater strength or hardness to soft paint. Seems the plastic film may be the way to go.

After reading all your comments on the paint , I've been planning to leave my bike out in the sun for awhile. I figure with Ducati trying to rush the bikes out to us , the paint simply hasn't had the time to fully cure and harden. Hence letting it absorb some heat/bake will hopefully allow any remaining solvents to evaporate, and it'll harden.

If you're in the UK or somewhere else cold, could try same but for longer or instead put a heater near the bike (not too close!!)

Just my 2 cents worth

+ 1 ...Totally agree.
