Panigale crash

Must not like NASCAR or else he would have turned to the left. "Let me go to the right. It's more challenging that way!"

Plenty of time and opportunity to make a good decision.......and didn't. I hope his take-a-way is positive. I know mine is.

Rider error no doubt...But please know we all make errors and we shouldn't have that feeling of schadenfreude about this... Crashing can happen to anyone.... ride safe...

spot on... man will make mistakes... the most succesfull is he that makes the least.. :)

He tried to filter by in the gutter. Can't do that at speed. Way too fast for downtown city streets. Obvious operator error. But if he was a few seconds closer to the van, and not speeding, his Go-Pro would have made him a millionare.

I'm not sure if the Minivan is partially at fault. If the rider was going only 25mph, the van might have left plenty of room. But I would have let the bike by and then followed. I give Semi's, Bikes, and white vans a little extra space.

I'm lucky if my work truck gets to 23mph in downtown Cleveland.

so here's the guy's "breakdown" of what happened, but what it really sounds like is excessive pride/ego/bs, lack of reflection of his own actions, lack or responsibility. it sounds like he learned nothing from this except that it's the world's fault this crash happened. i'm sure he will crash more bikes unfortunately..

Riding motorcycles are not inherently dangerous. But they are terribly unforgiving of any carelessness, incapacity or neglect.

Give him some credit, there was a green light .. And he spent quite some time in the vid. I try to ride it mainly in twisty roads .. less traffic, less problems!

This guys is an idiot, I gave him the benefit of the doubt when I saw the first video, but now after listening to his reasoning I've come to the conclusion he's a newb and an idiot. "I was Assuming" is right when he lost. on a motorcycle you can never assume, because we don't have the luxury like the cars do. He knew the bike had ABS and can stop on I dime, but he did't have that much experience on the bike, so what does he do guns it to the right of the van and tries to pass and make it through. If I was not familiar with a bike I would of taken my chances with ABS brake. He had many options and the option he should of took was not to ride the bike.

For me as soon as I saw that Van turn in front, that would of been the red flag for me to slow down and see what this van does next.

He doesn't seem to have learned his lesson yet.

You can only go as fast as the vehicle ahead of you. What if the taxi had to make a emergency stop or stalled while making the turn in the first place? The taxi had cleared the intersection so he has the right of way.

If this occurred here the rider would be 100% at fault and would get a speeding ticket plus a ticket for passing on the right and if the officer was in a mood another ticket for undue care and attention. 35mph is the speed limit under ideal conditions, he was clearly over it. He also admits to not being aware of the vehicles around him. I am surprised he has lasted this long.

Just saying! Why is this guy on a bike? Sorry for your pain and loss but take a safety course before you get back out there.

Hmm.... Statistics and riders would probably disagree...

Based on another of his videos it sounded like the bike's owner's insurance company was the one that paid out so the two insurance companies that were presumably involved may have taken a similar view of things. I will give him the fact that he's only marginally above the limit, no more than by 5 (given the Pani's 5% high speedo) before he guns it and in the U.S. 5 over is pretty commonly ignored by law enforcement.

The bottom line is that trying the gap was the wrong call. Reading the comments on the video is a constant reminder of why my insurance premium is what it is.

It is common for most drivers to be 10kmph over without receiving a ticket here. If a video of it happening was used as evidence it wouldn't help his cause. Even adding in his "assumptions" and worse case alternatives. Haha.

Ok, so he has the counter steering down.

Biggest problem was he forgot one option; use the breaks. Miraculous things they are, he could have stopped when he first saw the van, before the intersection, or he could have reduced speed and followed the van. Adding throttle is not an option as I see it.

ABS not a factor as at 40 he have plenty of room. Thinking of the van he passed was more than likely some distance back as he went by quickly. Saying they were going about the same speed would mean he wouldn't of passed he.

Final judgment is this guy shouldn't have a license for anything let alone MC.
