Panigale Dash / Display

No trolling intended...genuine question. What is the objective of this thread?

I think it's perfectly clear in the original post but I'll elucidate. With the issues people are observing with the display, why did Ducati decide to go with a more complicated (technically) arrangement for displaying information which could be shown in a more conventional manner and maybe cause them less hassle. My question was answered - it's easier to navigate the various options to set the bike up on a TFT display.

I understand you see yourself as a provocateur so I'm assuming that's your intent with the above question but on the offchance you are breaking with habit, hopefully the above will provide sufficient explanation

As a self confessed none owner it certainly comes across as trolling...But you have your answer.... so threads done...Right??

I like the way you say "self confessed" like it's some kind of gotcha. So if I owned one, the same question wouldn't be trolling? Well that makes sense  And yes, thread was done for me when my question was answered. I'm considering buying one which is why I'm here, not that ownership, current or prospective, is a prerequisite to be a member and ask a question here.

This is the second time I have seen someone being asked about ownership like it's the only way one can have an opinion. It's very childish.

Just pointing out that it comes across as trolling... not owning the bike is certainly a non issue... If you think it childish I am sorry.. wasnt meant to be...

I didn't own a Panigale until 2.5 months ago. You're allowed to ask questions...I'm just not so sure what the point of this question is.

As I said, it's like asking why Ducati decided to go with LED headlights, when halogens would have been easier and cheaper to implement.

I think the dash had a lot to do with selling me on the bike. I love it, and can't really say that I have had any issues with reading it. Similarly I got an S because I loved the wheels and the LED headlights.

I think the question of whether you own one is more about how much real-world experience you have with it, not that your question is any more or less valid whether you own an 1199. Real world it's much better than the LCD that was on my 848. It's not perfect, but I actually can see something if I have direct sunlight on the display. Not so much with the 848's LCD.

So not only it it an issue of ease of use with the controls, but it's also an upgrade as far as visibility of the display goes.

Understood. Sometimes it's difficult to gauge tone online. I am genuinely not partisan when it comes to brands and have never had the time or inclination to troll anyone online, especially Ducati owners :) It's really the dash and other electrical issues which are concerning me right now or else I'd already be riding an S or an R (well, that and the crappy trade offer I got from the dealer lol). I posted the question when I realized all the main dash data was the same on my LCD / analog S1000RR display as the Panigale but didn't take into consideration the additional customization which can be done on the Pani which the TFT facilitates.

I don't think manufacturers can even get new non/TFT LCDs anymore, so we may be giving Ducati more credit than they deserve, although they do deserve a lot for this bike in our opinion! :)

Is it? My understanding is that it's two different technologies but I might be wrong. Like I said in my original post, I'm not saying it's illegible but I found it to be less clear in direct sunlight than traditional LCD which gets more "contrasty" as the ambient light gets brighter. It's not a criticism - I just wondered why go to the trouble when there are more reliable solutions and got my answer above (the extra settings are easier to do on a multi-function screen).

TFT = Thin-film-transistor liquid-crystal display.
Most the displays you see today are a variant of the TFT LCD.. except those displays which are found at the pointy end of mobile devices.
I've only owned my Pani since early Sept last year and I have yet to come into a situation where I found the display difficult to read. Although, as someone else pointed out.. There as been situations (during the 3rd solstice of the 3rd moon, when the 9 celestial bodies were in alignment) where the reflection of the steering dampener on the screen was a little annoying. ;)

Ah, yes, on the S and above the suspension stuff requires it. Makes sense.

Even on the base model, there is a plethora of adjustments.
Yes... i can probably still be done with a much lesser display, but it would be a PITA.

What about when it fogs up?

I love the TFT, it is one of the sexiest and one of the things that most people ask to look at. Ducati couldn't have done this any better....
