Mine has never fogged.... ive been out in all weather, well all florida weather anyway...

Do I really need to spell it out? It hasn't fogged up for me, yet, but the hundreds of other people posting about it fogging up isn't good enough proof for you?

They could have provided a display that doesn't fog or scratch for everyone.

Lots of people complain about different things that don't affect everyones bike. My Bike Stalls for no apparent reason but it dont do it on everyones Pani, My bike runs 239, many others run much lower. Every bike is different :roll eyes back at you: so dont be so quick to expect the defect to happen to you... The TFT is still bad ass regardless..

You said they couldn't have done it any better, which just simply isn't true.

Understood. Sometimes it's difficult to gauge tone online. I am genuinely not partisan when it comes to brands and have never had the time or inclination to troll anyone online, especially Ducati owners :) It's really the dash and other electrical issues which are concerning me right now or else I'd already be riding an S or an R (well, that and the crappy trade offer I got from the dealer lol). I posted the question when I realized all the main dash data was the same on my LCD / analog S1000RR display as the Panigale but didn't take into consideration the additional customization which can be done on the Pani which the TFT facilitates.

I asked if you owned one to try to assess myself why you were asking the question.

I am at a different end of the spectrum to you as far as purchase criteria goes. I put a deposit down when I saw the display model in Sydney in November 2011. It was the bike going around the world after after initial release the next outing was in Sydney Australia. I could not even sit on the bike but put a deposit down that day. Then I waited like an expectant father till May 2012 to get one of the first 10 in Australia. I bought this bike because of its looks, character, soul, sound, technology etc. To me it was the whole package. And I say again for me.

Anyway perhaps if you are examining the choice of bikes from the point of view of faults or features etc then perhaps the Beemer is for you. I suppose the BMW is a more objective bike and the 1199 a subjective bike choice. Just my thoughts.

Please let us know when you make a decision and buy a bike. It will be interesting to see which one you decide you like the best, based on, of course, your criteria which includes the design of the instrument panel.

BTW you could stick my old Z900 (1976) analogue gauges on the 1199 and I would still buy it.:D

And its sunny here so I am off for a ride. Firewood all split and no mowing so time for a spin.

Honestly, miss the Analog Dials, esp the RPM gauge.

I don't miss them, even though I am typically sceptical about the relevance of new technology.
IMO the only part of the tacho that's relevant is the rev limit, or the red zone on the old tachos. The lead up to the red zone is irrelevant and of little to no use as one typically rides by the feel of how the engine is running anyway.
With these higher reving modern engines that are lightning fast and smooth through the revs until they hit an imposed rev limit, it's not necessary to worry about the revs you are actually doing.
I'm glad about the new technology. They even use the same technology in the latest aircraft for a number of very good reasons.

IMO based upon 30 odd years of experience, the only legitimate/practical application for an analog display is on a wristwatch. I should also add that i've got rid of my mobile phone out of my life.

I especially like the way the rev limiter warning lights work. IMO it couldn't have been done better from a practicality point of view:)
Also the contrast change for day/night is superbly practical.
I believe the colour display is almost a necessity for assisting with navigation of the complex menu functions, and on that basis alone it precludes it from being a novelty factor.
And the display is more visible than anything digital that's come before it, to the point that any deficiencies with sunlight hitting it are almost inconsequential.

Cheers

I recently bought a brand new 2013 S1000RR but rode the Panigale a few times and thought uh-oh this feels like fun :D I went with BMW because there was only one Ducati dealer in the area and they had a bad rep. Now a new one has just opened with a much better rep so I'm thinking about changing to or adding the Panigale.

Good man. I'm trying to cut gadgets out of my life - too many mindless distractions. Internet forums should probably be next to go :D

Well if you can afford both then lucky you and knock yourself out. Let us all know when you actually buy it.

Simply brilliant dash for 2013, makes everything else seems real old.

I get guys come up and say can you show me the dash... I turn it on and let it run through its checks, then laugh when the go ooh and ahh..

I have no trouble seeing it in sunlight and we have plenty, and it changes automatically when it gets dark.
it goes from road mode to track mode at a touch of a button, I can adjust my suspension and engine easily, the rev counter is brulliant and have you seen the rev limiter lights?

Seriously there are some strange questions on this bike, but the dash is a standout.

Dash not perfect, but is really advanced. They will eventually figure it out. Always a price to pay being first consumer.

No trolling intended...genuine question. What is the objective of this thread?

You got Rick Trolled.
