Panigale didn't make the list...

Naming vehicles after places and people is common. Moto Guzzi Stelvio ( after the alpine Stelvio pass), Ferrari Modena (town where they're made), Pontiac Le Mans, etc.
The only name I ever had an issue with is Ninja, Japanese for assassin, which never sat well with me having grown up in an era when bikes were referred to as murdercycles.

And now they've gone and married the Ninja name with the H2 moniker, the original version of which was rightly considered a widowmaker. Death squared; ride it if you dare! ;)

No one who ever stops and talks to me about my bike has a clue its a suburbs name in Bologna... I think that "ignorance" is common and therefore the Panigale name works well...You are being too harsh IMO...

I'm glad they gave the 1199 a name even though those (non motorcyclist) never pronounce it correctly.

Random person: "Is that the new Ducati?"

Me: "Yeah, eleven ninety nine Panigale"

Random person "Upon a what?!

Me:"pana gall lee"

Random person: "Oh, Pan Gale... ok. That's nice"

:D:D:D

It was worse with my 1098.

"That's a nice one thousand ninety eight you got there!" I'm like WTF, it's not like you're writing a check. :D:D

No doubt just like the Ferrari California but prob wouldn't make the list of favorable names like Lamborghini Murciélago.
