Just 30 mins ago , was riding my panigale base to work .

Was a happy man .
Halfway through the ride on the expressway, felt something at my ... .
Took a quick peak , passenger cowl was detached and flew off !!!
Lucky no vehicle was behind me , if not it would had hit their wind screen .

Reached my work place feeling sad as hell ..

Totally bad way to start a day ...

And prior to moving off I took a cloth from underneath the cowl and lock it back ...
Wondering if it was my fault or mechanical fault ...

I guess its gota do something with being a mechanical fault.. cuz someone posted something similar - having lost his cowl while riding, it just flew off... thats why before I ride, I make sure the cowl is nice, tight and locked .. you know just to be sure...
Now, that I'm thinking maybe I should get a red-band or something alike to secure it..
Srry, you lost yours.. just get another one asap...

you have to check as some of the mechanisms have masking tape remaining after painting, the overspray covers the tape and so the mech doesn't lock effectively. The other thing is to make sure it has a nice loud click when you install it on the bike. Same deal I had with my sf.

I also had the tape but removed it before it was a problem.

Also check in the cubby hole where the toolkit lives. It can cause issues with the lock depending on where the diag port is.

Yup same happened to me ! Was whipping along and felt something on my back, reached around and found my seat cowl there ! Very alarming as I lost 1 from a 750sport on a trailer and never could replace it.
I found it needs a good thump to lock it in place.

Well , tks for all the replies ...
At least I dun feel like a total goon knowing this has happened to other hahaha

Guess its e bay or a used passenger cowl . Or anyone has a spare haha

Mine came off in the parking lot when I was leaving the dealer after just purchasing the bike. I was lucky. It seems it can be deceiving as to whether it's truly locked in. You need to give it a firm push and get a good click. Once it is really locked in, it won't come off.

exactly what happened to me, i caught it with my left hand and pulled over

Mine flew off on the first ride and was replaced under warranty, catch was adjusted. Seems its a bit sensitive and not always adjusted correctly.

Dealer was very apologetic and replaced it with the one from the showroom bike. Luckily the one on the base bike was the same as the Tri I had.

this must be a trend, i lost mine last saturday too. Had just left the house, felt something on my back and next thing i knew, cowl is gone. I cycled back and did find it on the road, all scuffed up. Will just get a replacement carbon fiber one now.

Surprisingly this has happen to quite a numbers of fellow members !!

I lost one, which got run over by the time I could get back and pick it up.
And I almost lost a second one, but fortunately I felt something hit my back and grabbed it before it could fly away.
Both times happened after service shop had been under the seat cover for maintenance.

to keep the costs down most of the carbon fibre cowls I've seen for all the ducs don't include the mounting hardware, they figure you'll transfer over from your own cowl.

You could probably find a dinged up cowl on ebay if you need the hardware.

Have you found a carbon replacement available? One with hardware included?

Whrn I got my bike the dealer was very keen to tell me to make sure the cowl clicks loudly when putting it back on, seems it can still be loose but looks flush., told me he had sold a few replacements...

Maybe Ducabike or Speedymoto will make a blingy cowl retainer. Something like a sunglasses holder or a biker wallet chain so that if it falls off it won't go far.

Hmm mate a safety wire for our passenger cowl ? Lol
Never had such issues on the 1198 before .
But since it's a Pani , anything goes haha

Yup - happened to me too driving on 10 West, felt "something" brush my leg when I was doing 85 mph only to find out it was the cowl. I had been warned when I bought and $200 later a replacement I consider it tuition paid!
