Photochromatic visor - opinion

I have the X-14 with it. Always used Shoei's mirrored shields in the past, have the mirrored chrome for the X-14, and would switch between that and clear depending on conditions for the ride. Overall I love the photochromic, it just works. Seems to adapt fairly quickly, I understand that over time that slows, but I've only had mine for a month. My one complaint is that it does not seem to get as dark as the mirrored shield at full shift. Those early or late hours in the day that the sun is just above sightline, particularly on east/west roads, I wish it was darker. But I gladly trade that for the versatility it affords when starting a ride in the afternoon and getting home at night, as that describes most of my rides. I'd absolutely buy it again.

I have the e tinted Visor for my AGV Pista.

Didn ´t like it at all. Kind of foil which is glued to the Pista Visor to allow the tinting via switch on right side of the Visor.
Looks cheap and i replaced it to a standard visor after short time of use.

Maybe newer developments in this technology look better.

Agv for me.
And i really like. It
Have it on my Helmet and my daughters
We both really like it
Good battery life and no issues.

Love my AGV s

I love photochromatic visors.

I have a Bell helmet and use a photochromic visor. It costs $130 last time I checked, but the convenience is worth it. No changing visors, or carrying around a spare visor. The plastic is as tough as any single tint visor. The photochromic effect will last about 2 years. At around the 2 year mark, you will notice that the visor does not become entirely clear. That will affect your night vision and it's time to replace the visor.

I have the same and I like it in general, the only problem I have with it is if you are going in and out of heavy shade, the reaction is a little slow.

Cheers

Photochromatic reacts too slow for me, E-tint in the way to go! On/off with a button, instant change.

Akari Visor Inserts - e-Tint

I had two of these, first one didn't last a full days ride.

The replacement (thanks Revzilla) lasted 3 rides before the visor would half go between light and dark on different parts of the visor. At one point it went to a total fog and I had to lift my visor to see.

Revzilla took it back and refunded my purchase price.

That was about 3 years ago, so hopefully they've improved.

I haven't come across a fine working solution yet. Both the e-tint and the Pista GP LCD and the photochromatic are not ideal. Each oen with its own disadvantages. I do think that if Shoei improves their concept it would be the best of the 3.

I just dont think the technology has caught up to these yet. It will, just isnt there yet. And they only get medium dark, not really dark like most of us are accustomed to.

I will second this. I have a Shoei RF-1200 and used to carry a spare clear shield to swap with my dark smoke in case I ended up coming home after dark. In the winter my commute is half in the dark so I was swapping twice a day. This is a great solve but as mentioned doesn't go as dark as a dark smoke or mirror lens. A year in and the tint still reacts pretty well. By the time I close my garage and have backed out to the street it is dark.

I tend to keep this lens on, but will swap if I know I'm on a day only ride.

In short, not going full dark sucks, but not as much as packing around two visors.
