Hi guys. Just had my 2014 panigale serviced few days ago I noticed after riding a plastic burning sort of smell.machanic checked it out an thought it could of been the bottom of fairing touching exhaust so he shaved a little of fairing from inside. Took bike out for quick ride got home an can still smell it. The smell to me is coming from the heat protector for exhaust under seat.i know panigales heat your seat but has this happened to any of you guys. Or do you think mayb I need new protector. Any help would be great. Thanx guys

if you noticed the smell after they did an oil change ,,,, you might be smelling some residual motor oil that got on the exhaust and could not be wiped off. once its one there it bakes off for a few days .

My '14 1199s pretty much always smells at least faintly like burning plastic after I ride it. Still can't figure out where it's coming from . . . .

Thanks guys. Yeah I thought it was oil drops on exhaust after service but the smell is plastic smell. I'm pretty sure it's the exhaust cover under seat. Ohh well I suppose il get used to it

Hi mate,

Have a look at the sump protection guard. Mine self ignited on the freeway between Adelaide and Melbourne.
The 1299 got an upgrade to a plastic and steel guard.
Not sure what exhaust your running, but if its aftermarket and not tuned properly, you may have excessive heat at the cans, just enough to overheat the plastic stone ship guard.
Might not be the source, but it takes 2 seconds to have a look under the bike.
