I wonder if anyone have had any unreachable bolt come loose like on the engine or something?
I did a retightening exercise yesterday at 1K miles and found quite a bit of body related hardware loose, even the ones that hold my Evotech radiator guards.
Windshield, side mirrors, fairings, engine heat shield covers at the knees, seat.
panels above the forks inside the front wheelhouse.
Check anything you can reach!
 
Had my side mirrors come loose when I purchased my bike brand new from our local dealer.

I guess it was more a dealer issue upon assembly of mirrors etc...

Tightened them since and retightened all my bolts. Frequently checking them before a ride...never had a bolt or a screw fall off.

So far so good!
 
Pulled the muffler and Loctited the loose bracket bolts yesterday....for the second time. At least that gave me a chance to clean the muffler well with an application of Barkeepers Friend. What a startling difference.....pics in another thread later.

The lower bolt for the exhaust valve cable shield was missing, and it (the entire shield) was replaced by the dealer a couple of months ago. Removed the cable and guard completely, so that problem is gone, at least.

Rode to mountain cafe today roughly 50km ride, bike is still break in period (less than 600km). After coffee hopped on bike and looked down to lift kick stand and noticed a bolt on the ground. Ended being my subframe bolt right under the tank on the left side! Couldn't believe it.... Anyway got home and tightened it up with Loctite and checked the other bolts as well. Seems the heat cycles from rear cyl may have loosened it...just an FYI to all owners to check those bolts
 
shoot. not on my tri, but the diavel just lost it's license plate on the way to work. dang now I gotta get a new one.
 
arrived at my destination, put the kick stand down, started to walk off. Next thing you, the bike started tipping over to the left, the kickstart bending forward. Just caught it in time.

So the front kick stand bolt rattled out. The kickstand was dangling on one screw. Next time you have panels off, double check the kickstand. 25nm


this is the second time a bolt fell off during a ride. Last time was the shift rod bolt, got stuck in 4th gear. Not easy circling local street looking for a shop riding in 4th gear.

I put stainless steel lockwashers on my kickstand bolts. I caught them coming loose once. No problems since.

Lost an upper subframe bolt, but I think that one was my fault, may have forgot to tighten it.

Just a word to the wise, I wouldn't locktite bolts that didn't have have it on them from the factory; ie the ones that are greased. The grease on the bolts, subframe, kickstand etc., is to protect from corrosion and oxidation from dissimilar metals being joined. If you don't clean out all of the grease, the locktite isn't going to work for a .... anyway.

25nm, got it. I've known that the bolt that goes through the kickstand itself is 43nm, but the two bolts that hold the whole assembly to the bike, didn't have a value for that. No loctite for any of those bolts - I used anti-seize.

Had the same issue with the front bolt. Luckily an ACE hardware store was close by...
 
My dealer removed my small mirror bolts that were torx with hex head bolts that work with my toolkit. They also added medium locktite to the threads. Too bad they didn't get all OCD with those wellnuts on my windshield.

Also replaced a few bolts missing that holds my side fairings and one large fairing bolt on the lower right side near my rear brake. It was scratched up by my brake pedal from rattling around. A little Ducati red at Colorite matched up well with some fine grit sanding and buffing--yap, it just buffed right out!
 
Concerned owner here, I have 1900km on my 1299 at the moment. Regarding tightening of bolts? How do I know if they are lose?
One can easily over torque by simply fitting a socket wrench or similar especially on smaller bots and Allen keys, so what is a safe method to overcome this possibility?
It's not practical to try them by hand because they could be lose and just tight so your hand cannot turn them or are you guys having issue wherein you can see the bolt physically turned out ?
 
there are bolts that are so loose, you can lose them during a ride.

so far, i had caught loose on:

rear wheel hub, mirror, shift rod, kick stand (front bolt gone), fairings, clip on, front fender

If you cannot tell by putting on a spanner, then buy a good quality torque wrench. The torque list is here on the forum. Print it out. Problem solved. The list even tells you what to locktite.
 
I have seen people marking their bolts alot? Is there a good paint pen to do this? What is usually used?

There are 4 of them 2 up top which catch the threads and 2 that go into the air ducts that have threads. well one of the 2 big ones right by the key was gone. Any bolts that i took off changed or touched myself were all loctited down with blue loctite and were fine. of course these other bolts did not have loctite.

Also my mirrors were getting loose and the bolts under the rear cowl were a little loose.

do yourself a favor and check these often. i took the toolbag out and tightened everything for the ride home.
