Hi all I'm new here and new to Ducati in general. I have to say I'm a true convert now. I have a 2011 diavel black with @2500 miles on it I have had no issues until recently. I usually have my key fob in my pocket when starting and riding my bike but one day I went out to ride and the bike would not turn on. I initially thought somehow I must have drained the battery so I removed the cover and tested the battery everything was fine so I thought maybe it is the battery in the key fob so I changed that still nothing I can use the button and code to start the bike. And if I put the key under the seat in the tray it will work. I used the red key also on the same manner ( under the seat) and it works. I'm at a loss. I'm not sure what it could be at this point. I'm hoping by posting this someone can help. Thanks in advance.

HI Dust
Have you set a pin code for the bike yet ? I know that's just a short term solution. I have heard that there are some problems with the active key at times. I see that your from Casper WY. I haven't looked where the nearest dealer is for you, but I would call them if you haven't already. I will ask mine here in Seattle if they have a solution.

Thanks duc fanatic I live in Casper so Colorado is the closest I used to live near Fay Myers so I did call them they just said I need to bring it in so they can diagnos it's I plan to get down there in the next couple of weeks if things dont improve. I wish it wasn't 300 miles but at least I get to ride.

I'm glad your getting that worked out. I'm new to the Diavel too and not sure if my ideas are good :). This forum seems kinda slow..............

Update: took the bike to the dealer and they did updates to the computer and did everything they could think of to get the key fob to work with no success. They contacted Ducati and they are replacing the hands free unit on the bike free of charge.

Glad to hear your being taken care of Dust. I'm looking at moving to the Star valley area some time in the near future. Getting tired of the rain here. I will gladly trade it for snow.

I took my bike to the dealer in whitby toronto.
They update the software and its working now . The update change the display a bit . But it works good now

I have found that if I have my phone's Bluetooth on it can affect my key's signal to the bike. Even though I have them in opposing pockets.

Key FOB/Hands Free Error

I have a 2015 Ducati Diaval that I bought late in 2014. At 940 miles on the bike I was 400 miles from home in the middle of nowhere and got a lockout/hands free error when trying to start the bike. After field testing the bike with a technician on and off the phone for five hours I had my wife drive the 400 miles in our pickup to take me and the bike back home (was on a 4,000+ mile trip). Turns out that the hands free security module went belly up, locking me out from starting the bike. Neither the FOB or the code could get past the error. What really torques me is that the part had to be ordered from Italy. Other than that I love how the bike handles. However, it has me questioning the reliability of this machine. Let's see how the next 4,000 miles goes when, and if, I get back on the road with it again.

Sometimes to get over error issues u should disconnect the battery and reconnect it after at least 50 seconds .... This little trick makes most of electronic errors go away ....
My is also a 2015 model has over 8000 km and still haven't had any issues
