Likely a dumb question, but what the heck ... What is the advantage/purpose of the high exit exhausts as compared to the OEM units and similar which exit just in front of the rear tire. I presume it is to lesson heat input to the rear tire ... but wondered if there was any tuning aspect to the design?

heat to the tire is negligible. but the underslung cans keep a lot more heat around the oil pan and the engine in general.

it's predominantly header length, build space, and in racing: accessibility.

The rear subframe where it meets the rear cylinder is where the heat comes from, I was going to ground down my subframe a bit where the bolts go through and put a heat deflecting spacer to stop the heatsink of the subframe but I have a ZX10R for the road now and on the track the heats not an issue. Shame we can't use asbestos anymore.

I think you're right as compared to the OEM units there has to be an alternative that can closely take care of the system so that the bike can reach its best output
