Bike is at local stealership. I'm a cash buyer so they are being pretty decent with the price. Bike has 2400 miles, new tires and chain. They said it was serviced by their other dealership(Ducati). It's a 1 owner bike.

What are some things I need to know about the bike to look out for or when I test ride it are their dash indicators I need to watch for that identify problems?

Did this "˜14 1199 S come with multiple keys, key code card, etc? I previously owned an 1198 SP and it had two different keys and a code card.

Where there any major recalls or negative mechanical concerns regarding this model year?

Lastly, I looked online at many pics of 1199 S's and I could not find pics of this model with just the main fairing area showing white and no white on the rear. Let me know what you think. What's a good asking price - $14-$15k otd?

Looks like a wrap or paint.

2 keys.

$13k max if it were me. Prices are in the toilet on used ducati's right now. Cash talks!

Looks like a really nice bike!

I think replacing the chain after 2400 miles is quite soon.. no?
ex-track bike?
This does not mean it is a bad bike! Take somebody with you who has more knowledge

4 months ago I got a 13 1199R with 2500 miles in PRISTINE condition for 16k for reference....and I absolutely agree on the chain??? I would be asking why and looking for rust on the rest of the bike...in case it sat outdoors this entire time..

Id actually look for a 1299 instead - its a much better bike to ride, especially if you are coming off an 1198. You'll miss the low down torque of the 1198 and wonder where the legendary Ducati grunt has gone...

2014 1199 S is a great bike. No specific issues to be worried about with those miles if bike has been held in good condition. With Bren Tuning mapping feeling will be much improved and almost perfect (at least in combination with a full exhaust system). Fairings seems to be wrapped and I can see that rear hugger is replaced with a (DP?) carbon hugger. Otherwise it seems stock from what can be seen on the photo. No reason to change chain with those miles but could it be so that previous owner have changed rear sprocket to 41 teeth (+2 as on the R and many do) and due to that replaced the chain as well (as is a must)?

Obvious mods are paint/wrap, rear hugger, fender eliminator. Somewhat important to note the passenger pegs are not on the bike. I know for some, its important that the OEM pieces remain with the bike, so you might ask if the passenger pegs, passenger seat, factory hugger, factory fender etc accompany the bike.

If you're a cash buyer paying asking price or near asking price and its at a ducati dealer, I would negotiate an extended warranty.

Kind of hard to tell from your pic but the fluid res for the front brake looks pitch black. I would ask that they flush that for you along with the clutch. My .02

Hi. Thanks for the info gents. Few things since I initially posted.

After looking at the internet photos again today they were taken and posted before the bike was fully serviced and new tires/chain install.

The fairings are definitely OEM; it's not a wrap or paint - I confirmed that today when I went back to look at it.

The bike was recently serviced at Ducati dealer. The fluids are 100% fresh.

When they took it in on trade it was still on the original tires. They decided to just put a new chain on it when they installed the fresh rubber. No sprocket change.

Has both keys, rear cowl and seat, rear passenger pegs. Rear hugger is orginal, not carbon.

No ex-track bike. Bike was garaged always - zero signs of sitting outside

They were asking $14,999 initially, then $13,800 + all the added ......... It came out to $17k & change. I offered $14k cash OTD.

So the fairings are OEM? they are not the ones that came on this bike from the factory, and if they are OEM, they would not match in paint color. Meaning, this is the SL paint scheme. This only came on the SL and that bike is more of an Orange than ducati red (because the orange shows much more red on TV then actual red). so i would be hard pressed these are SL fairings that someone installed and you couldnt tell the color difference. Some people paint the fairings to make it look SL, so that could have been done.

Chain was most likely replaced because they went with a different (bigger) rear sprocket. You will get better low end with a larger rear sprocket and with that you need a longer chain.

With that low of miles, i would say one of 2 things, either it was a track bike and was ridden properly, OR the dash burned and the dash was replaced (issue with these bikes with aftermarket screens). But regardless, i wouldnt have an issue getting the bike.

Yeah I've come to realize the fairings are not original from the factory. Wherever he got them they did a great job because it matches the paint perfect. After finding that out it kinda worries me. I don't want a .......ized bike, at least not for that kind of money. I looked hard and I cannot see where it might've been tracked or been on the ground for anything. I'm going to go back and ask them if I can look at the title to see the mileage on the title. Maybe it'll clear up some concerns. The bike is super super clean.

Wasn't the dash issue more inherent on the 1199 model bikes?

Thanks for all the info, I appreciate it. Not knowing what happened with the original fairings bothers me a bit, but then again they could be the originals and the owner just had them painted. They look great and OEM-like, not custom. I'll dig a bit deeper. I'm looking at all avenues regarding this bike, but its not the only one I am looking at.

There are several 1199/1299 S's out there currently. Two are local, and the rest are within 300-400 mi's from me.

I do have another question. Is the 1299S that much more refined than the 1199S?

It could be so easy that the previous owner have got some small scratches on the mid fairings and decided to cover it up by painting or wrapping the mid parts ala Superleggera. I have small scratches on that part from transportation and have been thinking of doing the same. Is it possible to call the previous owner and ask?

According to me the 1299 is not much refined compared to 1199. Yes, it has improved electronics and cornering abs (that may help if you are an advanced track rider) as well as got some more torque due to the bigger bore but apart from that it has more or less same issues. If you have plans to change exhaust (full or slip-on) and map the bike e.g. with Bren Tuning software the 1199 midrange and rideability will be much improved better than a stock 1299.

I am having a 1199 coming up for sale here soon to get the V4R, if you are interested.

The 1299 vs 1199 isn't enough of a change hence i never pulled the trigger. I also like the 1199 look better than the 1299, front end is cleaner on the 1199 and the mirrors are collapsible (1299 and V4 are not) .

The OEM fairings are what you want, these might be a wrap installed over the OEM just to make it look better vs the all red. If its not OEM (which will be labeled on the inside) then i would not want to get it personally. It could be an aftermarket (i have a spare set i had painted for the track) that are great, but not OEM.

Dash isnt a concern, just track the miles, it may have been replaced is all im saying, its not an issue if it was, but it was known to burn.

Thanks. I believe the bike was never tracked. I also believe the mileage is true and no dash replacement. If it had more mileage I believe the radiator fins would be beat up - they are like new. It looks like a 2k mi bike should look.

The fairings have me boggled. The dealer doesn't know why. I think it was just personal preference of the previous owner. If it was painted or wrapped (which it does not look like either) someone definitely knows their stuff!

I'm headed back over to the dealer right now to take another look at the bike and ask if I can get in touch with the previous owner. I'll offer to give them my number to give to him so he can call me direct. If they're not cool with it I'm no longer going to consider the bike. Too many questions unanswered.

This bike would never be used for commuting - weekend canyon runs only.

Thanks. I have bad luck with getting bikes shipped - I'll never do it again. And FL is well over 2K mi from me. I need local or no more than 300-400 mi drive to pick one up. Good luck with the V4. If I could find one for $16.5-17k I'd just move in that direction. Probably almost impossible to find one since they're still a new novelty.

Well after my last look at the bike tonight I've decided to pass on it. I couldn't get answers to my questions, so I'm not going to take a risk on a bike no one can tell me about. Going with my gut. I'm looking at 3 other bikes, so we'll see how it goes. Thanks for your help and advice. When I get a bike I'll report back.

There are no shortages of AWESOME bikes out there so no reason to jump on anything that sets off your spidey-sense..:p Very smart move on your part.
