Ah I see :)

I am looking forward to seeing how light I can get my 1299S, while keeping it SS legal. Even though it is already really light, there are still improvements that can be made.

Full Akra exhaust
Lightweight battery
Titanium bolts
Cut rear rotor
520 chain/sprockets

Those things will drop about 20lbs off of it.

And Catalyst makes some lightweight race bodywork (40% lighter than standard race bodywork).

Motoholders subframe and front fairing stay is another 5/6 lbs or so. Carbon body work another 2.2lbs

I hear ya- I too am thrilled to see how light I can get my r with the basics-
Exhaust, battery (already light in the R) subframe, removing charcoal canister, race gas cap etc etc. the ounces add up!

How much do those things weigh on the Panigale? Has anybody compared the weight of the Motoholders to the OEM?

You have to be "careful" with that (for lack of a better term) because there are some cases where an aftermarket subframe isn't lighter. For instance on the R6, the subframe is made of Magnesium...and the Motoholders is heavier.

On the RSV4, you don't save any weight going with aftermarket.

But, with an aftermarket one you can easily bend them back into shape after a crash. Whereas the OEM cast ones will just break. So that is why I typically go with aftermarket aluminum ones. But in some cases they aren't lighter.

It is my understanding that the 1299 and 1199R make identical HP. The R has internals that spin up a little faster and the exhaust...but the 1299 has 100 more cc's (like they say, there is no replacement for displacement :D).

When you consider all of the other variables that go into acceleration (rider size, weight, ability to get into a tuck, RPM's, tires, gearing, available grip, setup/geometry, so on and so forth)...if somebody on a 1299 "gets left" by somebody on an 1199R, that says more about the ability (or lack thereof) of the rider on the 1299, than it does about the capabilities of the 1199R.

All true, especially the second half, but it's important to note that if you look at the 2 dyno graphs the S is only above 200hp for 500rpms. The R is above 200hp for a full 2000rpms and has a bit more overrun. There's s lot more area under the curve at the top. That should make it easier to keep it the sweet spot. If you aren't slow like me.

I only weigh 148 pounds so I don't need to to chase weight loss on the bike.

I read the 1199 (and I assume 1299) subframe is lighter than the one on the 899.

I also read the Motoholders subframe weighs 2.7lbs.

Anybody know how much the OEM subframe on the 11/1299 weighs?

The lightweight batteries typically shave about 5-6lbs off the bike. If I can shave another 5lbs with the subframe, that would be a quick and easy 10lbs lost.

Subframe, 5lbs difference from stock

I think there's more up the R's sleeve than they're letting on. I only have about 200 miles on mine so far and it feels unbelievable. The bike the Panigale should of always been.......

True it doesn't come with much, but in this sense, it's a less is more scenario.

I'm sure Ducati are pushing the 1299 as it will appeal to a far wider market, but make no mistake, the R is the ultimate, it's epic

I need my bike!

I changed my mind at least 20 times on whether to get the 1299S or the 2015 R... It came down to the fact that I commute every day and just couldn't see myself putting something as nice as the R through that daily grind. It would be like putting a Cheetah in a dog crate.. :D

The 1299S is still blowing my mind on a daily basis... It's just farcking dogs bollocks insanity disguised as an Italian motorcycle..:D:D:D

Here's hoping the R is even more berserk. (I'm guessing it will be).

I really should hold judgement before I comment. Apparently this bikes motor is the ...., so I'll wait and see....

Just at face-value it kills me- ducati gives you less carbon, no led headlights, no extra seat, no race exhaust, no evo mapping, yet the price goes up 10%... The bike must truly ride like an SL. At which point should it I absolutely wont regret a thing!

No more parting out!

Lol, just messing with ya bro! :D

I don't doubt the R is an amazing machine. Yes unlike R models of the past you don't get certain things out it seems like the direction they went with this one is race oriented. Dropping bits for less weight, if it is the SL engine that's insane for the price. It's built for the racer, the 1299 is an animal but a more user friendly beast

PiC's

I've still not taken her out. Combination of poor weather and job obligations. Will give a proper review once mod's are complete and weather cooperates.
Woodcraft rears fit fine.
had to change the front fairing stay to fit race bodywork.
some performance tweaks and race cans standing by.
will be putting 899 tank on to complete the stealth transformation.

more pic's

As far as extra's - you get a battery charger so you don't fry the little thing.
that's it. Paying for an insane motor and brain (electronic wizardry).

Stealth? So what are you going to do with it? Scare other track riders who will think it's an 899? Or something even more fun? :D

P.S. Can't wait for someone to properly review it.. It was a hard decision for me to choose the 1299S over the "R" but it doesn't mean I can't still lust after an "R".

i've found it better to be understated on track. seems like every event has someone pushing too hard trying to keep up with or overtake the SL, HP4, etc.
add's unnecessary risk. If points aren't involved, I try avoid it. people tend to leave you alone if your bike looks pieced together. :D
