Knutstorp......is this a new product from Stomp Grip? I know they help grip with your knees but this might be taking things a little far;)

can you post a pic of this? i am looking into a lap timer, and this is the one I am thinking of getting but due to the shear size and curious placement (I do not want it over my dash)

How it mounts in the cockpit

And the plate and how it mounts to the fairing bracket. The plate that is attached to the qstars with the supplied little screw is then riveted to the horisontal plate shown here..

I'm coming off a 4 year riding hiatus, and my last bike was a properly setup 848 that I tracked quite a bit in the beginner and intermediate groups.

I put about 1500 street miles on the 1299(Shadowfax) before I hit the track. The first session was spent just getting used to hanging off the bike. The tank wasn't quite as easy to latch onto as the 848, but holy hell did the bike feel nimble. Mind you, I upgraded my base 1299 with FGRT's and a ttx360, but between the geometry and the engine braking, I didn't need the brakes for the first session.

Jesus Christ, equating this thing to missle has been the best definition used for this thing, I seriously use that comparison literally. First day straightaways had me easing off the throttle because I couldn't trust that there was an end to the power. I thought I may have made a mistake not getting the 899; that changed about 20 laps in. Don't get me wrong, this bike is way more powerful than I need, but I'm sold on seeing how far I can evolve with this experience. By the afternoon I was using the brakes and couldn't believe how late I could actually brake into a corner. I felt encouraged by the feedback to push even further, but held back because I was filling my diaper enough as is.

I'm not used to electronics.
There, I said it. It took me up until the second day to commit to utilizing them for what they were designed for: wheelie control 4, traction control 5, EBC 2, ABS 1. I guess I waited long enough to get a bike with rider aids, because I honestly couldn't tell things were activating until I went back to the gopro footage. SO unbelievablely smooth in all areas. The straightaways were the only place I felt them kick in, when the front would lift a tiny amount from time to time, but my acceleration felt seamless. My suspension was dialed in quite well, so I never had any wobbling I couldn't recover without said diaper change. That ....... quick shifter is quite possibly my favorite addition to what I'm used to. Mostly because I can feel it work!

All in all, I was wary of getting back into riding. It appears Ducati figured out how to totally destroy the idea of being bike-less. Glad to be back.

Now THAT'S what I'm talking about RIGHT there.. Great write-up, thank you very much.

My turn on Saturday and Sunday, can't wait... :D

Thanks Sprinkles.
I too owned properly set up 848 before changing to 1199, and my reaction was exactly the same as yours.
It has allowed me to do things I have never imagined before, including winning (clubmans) races in my first racing season ever (finished last month). From zero to hero.
Braking io corners with rear wheel floating up in the air motogp style, carvig through corners, elbow touching down.
Unimaginable. And I was in slow group just two years ago.

First is from Brno MotoGP circuit and second Autodrom Most.

Well??? How did it go? How was the bike?

Cheers.

Well apart from going round the nurburgring on my 848 evo, this was my first track day, so I was a bit cautious at first! But after a few laps it was amazing. the bike felt rite at home on the track and I found it very easy to ride, makes me want to turn it into a track bike infact. The straight line speed of the bike is . As it was my first proper track night I was cautious with the settings, ABS 3, traction control 3, DWC 3, EBC 3 and DES was in dynamic and just set at default( still to play around with this). to be honest the only setting I adjusted was DWC due to the start/finish line being on the crest of a hill and getting some air under the front wheel was nice before coming down and hard braking for the next corner lol. I was blown away with how smooth it was on the track from the pure power out of the corners to the quick-shifter on down changes and EBC allowing you to brake harder and later and also being able to brake turning into the corner gave me more confidence. I got a small taste of how amazing this bike actually is and it allowed me to post not too shabby lap times ( in my mind anyway :D) cant wait for more track days, unfortunately they wont be till next year now:(

I'm surprised you haven't given it a shot around Knockhill... :D

Sorry, It was knockhill I went on with the 1299. Its short but good fun .
Short, but bloody BRILLIANT for racing Shifter Karts around... Some of the most fun I have ever had, was racing my 125cc Shifter around Knockhill. My Dad had a rear engined Hillman Imp that he raced there as well.

Anneau du Rhin 3.7km track. I'm sick for these trackdays... caused by a red devil.

This weekend at Thunderhill

What a freaking BLAST!!! First trackday for the 1299.

I think I remember those leathers/bike. Were you in B+ group? Might have passed me a few times lol

Edit: You could hang off the bike a bit more to reduce lean angles and hard parts scraping
