Fellow 1199'ers,

I want to track my baby, and need a suit. Realistically, I will not be doing a whole lot of track days, at least not to start, so that is a consideration for me. Of course I want to buy a good safe suit, but don't want to spend a fortune.

Really between these two Dainese suits, whats the main difference? Comfort? Obviously with the Aero Evo Im going to look like Predator :p

Dainese Aero EVO Race Suit - RevZilla

Dainese Crono Perforated Race Suit - RevZilla

And what about a 2-piece suit? Why wouldn't I want one of those?

Lastly, does anybody have a hookup on Dainese or some good brand they could help me out with?

i highly recommend going to sportbiketrackgear and seeing if they have any held slade race suit. i got one for 850 on close out. the suit is unreal. lots of roo and perf. check out the review of it on sportbiketrackgear.com they may have a few left depending on your size. it has a built in back protector too and other great features like a zipper under so you can open your suit and still have it zipped for vents. trust me why pay big bucks for dainese or alpinestars when this is out there. Looks amazing too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6RRe3dcezU if you can find a 2012 jump on it . the 2013 looks slightly different but its 1400 again.

I wouldnt recommend something i dont own.
i have nothing to do with held nor sportbiketrack gear

Held makes some good suits. I don't know about the slade but I have seen the race suit. Looked to be well made. Kangaroo is not necessarily over-rated, but I wouldn't necessarily hinge the decision on kangaroo or not. It is stronger for the same thickness, so they make the suits thinner in kangaroo (same amount of abrasion in a thinner form). Thinner /is/ lighter, but not necessarily cooler.

Now in terms of race suits - make sure you're a 'normal' size so that you can get fit properly. Best thing to do is to actually try a suit on somewhere to get the brand/size fit right before ordering (or buy from where you tried on). Same brands with the same size fit pretty close - but a lot of these sizes, as they get larger they also get longer. . .

can't fault some of the better dainese stuff. It's good as well. I know held more for their gloves, but their entry into race suits was pretty nice as well. SBTG and revzilla are the two big heavyweights - both are excellent with great customer service. You won't go wrong with either.

My favorite are the leather kind...

Srsly though, I use A* single piece (purchased at STG). I would recommend a spine protector and a chest protector. I know most racing clubs require a 1 piece and an articulated (CE2/3) back protector.

i agree with what anthem said here. i went with held because it fit me the best. european cut suits dont fit me will. the roo in held is on more of non impact areas to make the suit lighter.

Oh - in answer to your 2 vs 1. Two piece suits are for when you want to use the jacket when riding on the street and can get a matching pair of pants that will zipper together for using on the track. . 1 piece suits are kind of dedicated to the track - although you can ride on the street with a 1, but you would probably look a bit funny (and extremely inconvenient if you were stopping somewhere to eat/shop/etc).

The 1 piece will always outperform the two since the two depends on the zipper to hold things together if you have a get-off. 1 piece is entirely leather all the way around. Also some people fit/wear a 2 piece fine - others, the 2 piece seems to have more issues with comfort when zipped together.

i was going to get a 2 piece for fitment issues. i found out that you cant mix and match the bottoms and the tops. so for me it was why bother i already have a jacket for the street and i wont ever be able to wear the pants cause i wear a 48 jacket and have a 34 waist. thats US sizes. the drop is just too much. so i would have to buy a 2 piece and a separate pair of pants that makes no sense. you could always go custom too

I recommend looking into RS-Taichi brands. Some Ducati owners think because you own a Italian bike, you should only wear Italian gears but who cares. RS-Taichi make great products and leather suits for pretty good price. STG sells them but not Revzilla.

If you plan on using it in track, get the 1 pc. Its not bad idea to get a 2 pcs if you feel like going to a canyon to do some spirited rides and days just wearing the jacket and jeans.

I have both Dainese and RS Taichi leathers.

I've got a dainese laguna seca 1pc I bought last year and very happy with it, got it on sale at cycle gear think I paid around $900 for it.

If you're only doing a few track days, I'd get a two piece, as you'll get much more use out of it, absolutely will work fine for track days.

I highly recommend whatever suit you want, try them on at a shop somewhere. As my one piece is three euro sizes larger than my two piece, they fit entirely differently.

If you mail order without trying on first you'll be spending lots of dollars in postage til you get one that fits.

RS Taichi - upper levels 70/72 and 100/102 suits are definitely a step above. Basically those are the non-drum dyed suits that weaken the leather. Their regular suits I find a bit lacking since they are drum dyed like the rest (and not made where their top of the line suits are made) - and are no different/better than everybody else. They are making a heavy push by sponsoring a bunch of riders in the last couple of years so you see them out there a bunch more than before.

Thanks guys!

I really like the idea of a 2 piece, if it allowed on the track. I will check out the other brands but prefer Dainese simply because to me they look better. I already have a textile for the street, so a 2 piece could provide a leather jacket for more spirited riding with friends.

I will do a little more research and come back with more questions :)

Two pieces generally should match brands so the zippers line up. Although if you don't, with most - you can acquire the zipper ends and have a seamstress sew the zipper to the other side to allow you to use different brand combinations. . .

Try to stick with leathers on the track - as in leather jacket and leather pants.

+1

I have the ones that was made in Japan with Japnese cow leather. I have slided with them and this thing is just amazing. Almost look like there was no damage at all.

Another vote for the Held Slade. I've got 2 Alpinestars suits and the Held is lighter, fits better and cools better.

I have both Dainese and RS Taichi leathers.

I did a lot of research and ended up at three contenders in this order of preference:

1. Held Slade
2. RS Taichi
3. Daianese Laguna Seca

I missed a killer clearance sale on the Held with Sportbiketrackgear.com so opted for the Taichi. First track event I turned up at my buddies wearing the Dainese gear said they thought the Taichi was much softer leather and probably a lot more comfortable. After one track day (just breaking it in) I'm very satisfied. Also really like the zip out washable liner for FL track riding.

my vendor gave me 10% discount on items that he has to order from Italy, for suite that he has instock, he can give me as much as 15%, free shipping, PM me and i will try to hook you up :D
i know it depends personal preference, but i tried on Dainese and RS taichi, then go with the RS taichi in the end, i have a 1 piece and 2 piece, very happy with them both

the laguna also has a zip out liner, and yep for southern track days that's good thing!

Listing actual models and an entire brand is a bit misleading. . Unless the lowest item on that brand is entirely better than what you're listing. Taichi's non-japanese, drum dyed, made in china suits are of comparable quality to everybody else's. . . Their top japanese cowhide and hand made stuff is better than most others. . So probably helpful if you actually listed which model of RS Taichi as a reference because anything beyond their 70/72/100/101/102 is drum dyed, made in china, non-japanese cowhide.

As far as Taichi Chinese made, Taichi has pretty good/strict quality control for those product made in China.
