Racing Suits - Questions

Help Support Ducati Forum:

I have the RS Taichi GP-Max R072, and it is extremely well made and comfortable. I used to wear Fieldsheer jacket/pants on my Ninjas, another great brand.

As far as Taichi Chinese made, Taichi has pretty good/strict quality control for those product made in China.

Yes, but huge difference between that and the stuff that they are "known for" (and advertise heavily on). . . I would compare their chinese stuff to the same quality as most of the good dainese ukraine/eastern europe stuff.

Because if you're using a 072 as a reference - that suit is well beyond anything Held makes (certainly the Held slade (though I've never used/seen the slade, but its 072 is better than the top of the line Held race suit). Thats the point I'm trying to make.

The Helds are great suits. They do use Kangaroo, but it is used as panel inserts in non-crtical areas. But like Anthem says, the leather/sitching is a different level than Taichi's highend, maybe more on par with their mid level.

So what do you wear under the suit? Some sort of back protection?

I did a lot of research and ended up at three contenders in this order of preference:

1. Held Slade
2. RS Taichi
3. Daianese Laguna Seca

I missed a killer clearance sale on the Held with Sportbiketrackgear.com so opted for the Taichi. First track event I turned up at my buddies wearing the Dainese gear said they thought the Taichi was much softer leather and probably a lot more comfortable. After one track day (just breaking it in) I'm very satisfied. Also really like the zip out washable liner for FL track riding.

i got the held unreal for that price. should have got 2. i was going to go custom for the price of 2 slades. oh well

i bought a knox chest and back protector before i bought my suit. the held has a protector in it. rs makes great stuff can someone explain the 72 and 100 suit is that just a model number?

So Im nearing my decision I think, at least somewhat closer.

As far as boots go, it looks like Sidi's high end offerings are for off road.

Do I really need the $500 Dainese "boot inside" boots, or will their $300 option work for me? Whats the scoop here?

I use the boot in boot design in my SUpertech R's for the track. They offer the bets protection, but are bulky. I rock the SMX Plus for the street if I'm not wearing Fastlane riding shoes.

Dainese boots are really more for their suits. Most boots go over the bottom of the suit, but dainese prefers for their boots to go under - and they have velcro inside that attaches to the sides of the boot. You can use them with other suits as well, but thats the way they prefer. The boot in boot that some manufacturers use is just a protective sleeve. You don't /need/ anything - its a matter of what you have when the crap hits the fan. . You don't need a back protector, but it makes sense as its just a marginal increase. You don't /need/ carbon fiber inner boots unless you come across a situation where something is trying to torque you're leg. . you don't /need/ a helmet unless you were going to hit your head. etc. You get the point.

If you wen't all out, you'd be in a titanium knights armor and barely be able to ride. So its all a compromise of functionality (and price).. .

Getting back to your dainese inner boot - yeah, its carbon inner boot on a rotating hinge (for your ankle). It's a decent boot that I actually use for street riding as its pretty comfortable.

RS Taichi GP-Max R102

Got this in size 54. Underneath, Forcefield Pro L2K back and chest protectors. Great leather (the Japanese cowhide) and assembly, very comfortable, and it 'disappears' on the bike - no movement restriction at all.

(Yeah, the knee pucks are still clean ... haven't been on the track with it yet!)
