Anyone plan on buying an 1199 and making it a dedicated track bike?

Yes I will, especially if I find a good deal with an authorized shop reseller and also some sponsors to fund the season :)

it won't be a dedicated track bike, i'll be leaving all lights and blinkers on. But mine will definately see plenty of track time....I can't wait to compare this new 1199 to my 1098r

I would definitely track the bike. The only race I would participate in would be based on laptimes rather than pole position. We should start a Panigale Challenge!

Hmm what and how would that work? Inquiring minds want to know...

It would have to be regional.

Example for California:
March: Autoclub Speedway (Fontana, CA)
April: Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch (Las Vegas, NV)
May: Chuckwalla Valley Raceway (Chuckwalla, CA)
June: Laguna Seca (Monterey, CA)
July: Infineon Raceway (Sonoma, CA)
August: Willow Springs International Raceway (Rosamond, CA)

Run the day like an ordinary trackday for practice and leave the last session as a timed event for points. 1st 10 pts, 2nd 9 pts, 3rd 8pts, etc.

Each rider would be placed in their coordinating run groups; Novice/Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced. There series could be divided into 3 or 4 classes.

Class 1
999, 1098, 1198, 1199, RR,etc

Class 2
749, 848, 996, 998,etc

Class 3
851, 888, 748, 916, etc.

What tracks do you recommend in Colorado? How do the twins feel at the high elevation?

We have High Plains Raceway, Pikes Peak International, and Pueblo Motorsports Park.
On special occasions I'll get to Miller in Utah.

I'll mostly go to HPR but I hear rumors that Pueblo is getting a repave, If that happens I'll go there too.

The altitude affects all engines, we loose about 20% power here - it's unbelievable.
That's why I love these monster bikes - I need the extra performance just have a bike that runs like an 848 at sea level!
OK maybe not quite that bad.

Why not is the question everybody should be asking. Ducati is engineered for the track. My bike for sure will be out in JeningsGP and where ever it takes her. I want to race her but honestly cant think of a bike that can beat this thing. I also would like to get race bodywork before hand too just in case.

No, I have a dedicated Ducati track bike! Can't even imagine what I would have to do to start all over and build another from scratch!!!:)

However, that could all change once is start exploiting the 1199 on a daily basis. But for now, I am going to bling mine out as a pure street bike.

My 1199S will be a dedicated race bike, it will be race blue printed and all components upgraded to WSS spec or better before it ever turns a wheel. I already sold my 1198S race bike and I will sell one or two of my 848 race bikes over the winter. Hopefully Ducati will homologate the 1199 for AMA Superbike in 2013 and then my 1199S will be ready to race that series.

flynbulldog - You have run Pikes Peak on a bike? I always wanted to do that in a car, but just couldn't get the sponsorship. How do you like Miller? I hear it is a very fast track and very technical? I am thinking about going there through California Superbike School.

I live about 20 or 30 minutes from Pikes Peak, I can see it from my house. I've lived here all my life but I've never been up it... From what I gather its not that exciting.

There are so many great roads around here nobody bothers to ride PP

Who knows, maybe I'll give it a go next year.

haha I just realized you may be talking about PPIR and not the pikes peak mountain race...

Now I'm confused

All three at this point! I was hoping to run Pikes Peak (the mountain track) in a car but sponsorship never came through. I got confused when you responded that you want to run it in a bike!!! I would love to run PPIR in a car or a bike.

Lastly, I was talking about Miller Motorsports Park. That's the one I might do through California Superbike School. Wondering about how technical it is as I really would like to get on a technical track given my lack of track time on a bike.

Pikes peak hill climb on a bike:

PPIR just opened up last year after being closed for several years, I've not been on it yet.

Here's a vid from a race at PPIR. The track was made for stock car racing and isn't the safest place for a bike.
A freind of mine was seriously injured there so I'm a little gun shy of that track.

I'm pretty happy just running HPR at the moment but last year I got to ride Barber in Birmingham and that has made me want to explore new tracks.

I don't think Miller is a technical track but maybe that's because my home track is pretty technical.
Miller is insanely fast. But there are several configurations for Miller and I believe the superbike school uses a tighter course.

Pikes Peak on a bike! Maybe someday with a scooter for me on that one :):)

PPIR looks pretty good, but I can see what you mean about the danger. It's like the Pocono's track for the bikes. It does look like a fun car track with that infield especially coming off of the oval.

Cheers.

i was reading around and found this, thought you guys might find this interesting, brett is the canadian superbike champ from 2011 so it should be interesting to see what he can do with the 1199. :D

The Effenbert Liberty Racing signs Brett McCormick
Prague, 9th December 2011
Exactly one year has passed since the presentation of the Superbike Team and the Liberty Racing takes this
opportunity to officialize the signing of the rider BrettMcCormick, who will be part of the new team competing
in the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup 2012.
The talented twenty year old, coming from a season he dominated and after which was crowned as the 2011
Canadian Superbike Champion, already raced , riding a BMW RR1000, in the final rounds of the 2011 FIM Cup
in France and Portugal , and in October we invited him to participate to the private tests in Portimao and to try
the Ducati 1098F , on which he delivered a very positive performance .
Brett McCormick is the second rider signed in order to sustain the project for the support to young riders ,
on the development of which the CEO of Liberty, Dr Mario Bertuccio ,and the management, have decided to
commit themselves to and promote, starting from this coming season.
The motorbike that will be provided to the Superstock Team is the new 1199 Panigale model which, next year,
is planned to be replacing, in the Superbike version, the glorious 1098F .
Brett McCormick's first official appearance on the new Ducati masterpiece is scheduled on the 13th of
February, when the whole team will move to Australia and carry out a 3 days session of private tests on the
Phillip Island circuit, anticipating the official tests that will be organized by Infront on the following week.
Here is the rider's declaration : " It has been my goal and my dream to race in the world championships, and
I have to thank the Effenbert-Liberty team for giving me a test in Portomio. Their team and bike are with the
best, and they are serious about winning, so I plan to return their faith in me by putting the team colors at
the front! At the test I found the bike to be the best I've ever ridden. And working with the team from both a
technical and human standpoint was awesome, so I can't wait for the season to start!"

got this from "blackfootmotorsports" news updates.
