RAM Mount for 1299

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

I looked at these and then went out to check the steering stem on the 1299.

The hole in the top is smaller than the diameter of the stem tube just underneath it.

I could not see how these TechMount inserts would fit or stay in place.

I am using the toggle bolt mod from kickarsmann and it works great. First time I used too small of a toggle and it just busted apart when I tightened it down. Went up a size and it works fine.

How to get the thing out though?

Easy..just push it out thru the bottom of the steering tube, you just have to remove a small plastic cap. I put mine in that way. Fed a wooden bbq skewer down thru the steering tube, screwed the toggle bolt on, pulled it up then unscrewed it where it sat in place.

Just tried to install the Adaptiv D-01-16 mount, which claims on their website to fit a 1299.

The steering stem cap, supplied with the Adaptiv kit is too large in diameter to fit the steering stem of the 1299.

This is the underside of the 1299 steering stem cap.

Beg To Differ on X-Grip !

Had the Ram 1" Ball Mount and Universal X-Grip on since 2012 and have not had ONE incident at all happen with anything falling off, etc. :D

I also ran a dedicated power line from the battery itself, up underneath the tank, and coming out right up near the steering stem which can be used to power ANYTHING since the output (female end) is that of a USB outlet, that can be used with any other piece of short wire to run my Garmin, Samsung Galaxy S5, or even a GoPro Black which I can either mount on the Ram Ball or on the tank itself. The power source came from Ram as well. ;)

Here are some photos of the setup starting with Ram Ball and showing everything connected but the Samsung S5 which I had to use for taking these photos. Therefore, in my case, the Universal X-Grip has been stellar!!

On the Adaptiv kit, I just received an email from them stating that they had a batch with the wrong stem cap. They offered to supply the correct one, but I had already returned the kit to Amazon by the time I received the email.

Ciao Guys,

i find your post ... thanks the link to our product :)

let me explain ... our navi/cam mounting hub is made of full anodized aluminium and mounted / dismantled in 20 seconds ;)

in case of export out of europe you dont have to pay german tax ( which is included at the 39.90€ ! ) if you order small parts like this we can ship them in a small box for 15€ so the final price include shipping is only 48.53 €

less than 50 euros shipped, means you can stop putting parts from a DIY Shop on your ducati :D

for any questions let me know
Chris

ok, my Desmoworld mount finally arrived. It's really quite nice, although installing it through the steering cap required some encouragement with a mallet. I will use it 90% of the time for GPS, and 10% of the time to film. Overall I think it's an elegant solution.

I ended up using a 1" RAM ball with a 1/4"x20 threaded hole.

To mount it, I used a 3/4" bolt, two 3/4" diameter washers, one on top of the triple and the other underneath and a few 1/4" washers, underneath to pad a little for the length of the bolt.

Total cost, including the RAM ball, $11.
