so I'm rolling out from the house, and before I make it out of the neighborhood, the strangest sensation of turning the throttle and nothing happening, happens. I pull in the clutch to see if the engine (read ignition) has died). Engine goes to idle. I continue to ride and it's fine, except it just feels a bit off.

I key off the ignition at a stop and reboot the bike. Starts up fine, and everything's back to normal - back to the snarling, angry beast :)

Has this happened to anyone else?

Welcome to the wacky world of Panigale electrical/throttle issues! mine will just stop running sometimes. Then start back up and run for days without an issue. Others have also had the same issues.
My 1299s will also stay idled up for about a second( after I completely close the throttle) while going abound a corner or rolling up to a stop sign etc.

Lots of fun!! I love the looks and the sound and the handling of my 1299 but so far it has been nothing but trouble trying to get the bugs worked out and to get ii running right. If yours just dies once in a while consider yourself lucky. You got one of the good ones!

funny, my 1199 cut out on me today...died without warning, engine warning came up. All setting numbers dashed out, turned it off and back on and no change or start. Turned off and rang mate, while I was talking to him turned it back on again (about 2mins) and EBC DTC ABS numbers came back and it started again...rode home fine.

First time in almost 12000kms...

That sounds dangerous speedy.

It IS dangerous! Kinda scary and unsettling until you learn to expect it. ( I should NOT have to be putting up with it) but Ducati wont even admit it is a problem... :( The guys at the Ducati Shop rode the thing and they admit there is a problem. But when they call Ducati they get no definitive answers..

If I cannot get these issues straightened out then I just spent over $30K for a sexy Italian bike that runs like a turd... Funny but the Japanese bikes NEVER have these issues! I wish I had bought the BMW now.

This was my dream bike but it is quickly turning into a freaking nightmare.. IT has been nothing but problems I have spent many hours on many Saturdays at the dealerships service department trying to get it fixed and they are doing the best they can but from what they are telling me Ducati has NO answers
The guys at The dealer are all great and they are really trying and go out of their way but the fact remains that this thing is a turd so far..

I read all the magazines Like Sport Rider, Cycle World and even the English bike magazines like Fast Bikes etc and they were all talking about what a monster the 1199 and especially 1299 is and how powerful it is, but mine runs like .... and It has had many attempts to correct it with various maps etc. (including the 1299 "Up Map" that was included with the slipon's). from the dealer. The last map was the Racing EVO map and it made little difference either. I keep thinking it may be a faulty coil or wire or perhaps the ECU gone bad etc. however it does not throw any codes so the dealer will not replace stuff that doesn't show to be a problem on their analyzer.

I have had a lot of patience with the bike because I really love the way it handles and it looks etc. But this really sucks. Even their demo that I rode ran better than this one ever has!!
Maybe an average person off the street would not know the difference but I do. I have been riding on the track for over 7 years and know when I bike is running strong. I know when a motor is running right and this is not right..
I wish I had bought the R model instead now. By the time I figure in the price of the slip on's (at $3500 a set) that I added in desperation as well as other stuff I purchased, it would not have been much more and it would have been pretty much ready to go right out of the box. I wonder how much they would give me in trade for this one? I doubt it would be anywhere near what I paid for it.. I will see and report back..
Oh well enough ranting.. I feel better..

That's the reason I sold my 14R is started doing it about 70-80 percent of the time.
Whatever my issue was was solved in a thread a while back and had something to do with the clutch master cylinder switch. Did you change levers or mess with your clutch master cylinder recently?

What would happen with mine was you'd turn the throttle and the revs would jump up to 6000rpm, which is fine, then you'd do it again and nothing would happen or it wouldn't jump up to the revs it should and there would be a delay and it's just feel boggy like a 2 stroke. Ducati didn't know what it was and couldn't fix it.

Mine has cut out before( just sitting there idling) while the service tech was working on it. I wasn't even sitting on it? it has also died in the middle of an intersection also In my driveway and several times while coming to a stop etc... that problem is fairly intermittent but the throttle staying revved up while cornering is a problem. It doesn't run wide open. Just stays at around 3000 rpm... Which then suddenly cuts off and upsets the bikes suspension.

I'm a new 1299S owner, about 160 miles on it so far. I also bought a 2015 Multistrada S a couple of months ago.

I've had the accelerometer replaced on the Multi as it produced similar symptoms when riding in heavy rain. Engine would run, but I had no control over it with the throttle.

While replacing it, the dealer hinted that Ducati had used the same known faulty throttle components, as what was on earlier models. Apparently they have seen this issue on multiple Panigales.

If these problems are getting pretty widespread, and it sounds like these could be dangerous, I would suggest we all start filing NHTSA reports about the issue. Once they get a few similar reports, and they don't need many, they will be all over Ducati to resolve it.
