Shimming the shock linkage wouldn’t do much to the swingarm lateral “end float.” That’s determined by the tolerance in the swingarm pivot at the engine case/chassis and swingarm itself.
Agreed.
It also means that there should be much if any torsional or lateral stress on the linkage.
