Rear Wheel Nut HELP

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

I do it every 2-3 trackdays with absolutely no problem - just gotta get a good impact gun.

These are torqued to 165 lbs.

Just removed my wheel solo. If you need levarage. Put the back wheel on a wall. Right foot on rear break, presto.

I put my bike in gear, held the spokes and was able to break it after about 3 seconds with an impact gun while it was on the rear stand. The Ducati rear wheel socket might be a good idea if you don't already have one. No way will you strip that thing.

This may sound stupid to you, but are you going the right way? (Lefty loosey, righty tighty)

I have a steel socket. Thank god. To hi jack my own thread. Can I now ask how you get the front axle off? Is there a special tool? I took off the calipers, took off the nut on the left (whilst sitting on the seat) and loosened the pinch bolts and have it up on fork stands. I pull it out from the right side correct? I can't get it out nothing to grab on to. I do see two notches though

After you remove the nut push it through from that side to get it started out. Then you can grab it from the notched side and pull it out. Keep an eye out for the wheel spacers when you pull out the axle.

Get one of these. 345 ft lbs.

Useful for rear axle nuts, counter sprockets, clutch basket nuts, etc. Never have problems getting anything off.

didnt have any issues getting mine off - foot on brake, good coupla heaves and off it came. Again as someone said: you are going the correct way - its a lefty thread .. just checking

Front axle still stuck. I am ....... cursed

remove the left side nut, Loosen the four pinch bolts, tap the axel out from the left side. Using something that won't damage the axle. If its still too hard remove the calipers then try taping the axle out. It should be very simple.

with everything open, have the main nut still on (3-4 turns at least on the thread) and hit it with a rubber hammer a bit. it should start moving.

then insert something (i always use a long 3/4" extension and hit that one. comes out fine.

remember how the spacers are inserted!!!

...and the spacers on the brake calipers go in between the calipers and the forks and not between the bolt head and the caliper ;)

mounted them once in a rush... wheel didn't turn. took me solid 8 minutes to figure out what went wrong.

You may have a slightly oval axle due to overtighening of the pinch bolts. Undo the pinch bolts, try to rotate the axle using a axle tool 90°. tighten the pinch bolts to about 5nm higher than spec, 24nm or so. This should squeeze the axle back in shape, pops right out. No need to hammer.

If you hammer it out, how are you going to put it back in?

yep very common problem with overtorquing the front axle on ducs, another reason to not let other people do your wheels.
