Pff.. can't release it? I couldn't get all of mine done (due to similar reasons; parts etc.), but my dealer did what they could and then helped me get it track prepped for the weekend.

I didn't hear anywhere that you could no longer ride the bike due to incomplete recall.. Seems like the dealer is being janky. The fuel tank pressure thing is likely the biggest concern/hazard, but they should be able to complete that without much of anything. I know my dealer was already doing this before an official recall was issued.

Anyway, good luck. Hopefully you get back out there before the summer is over.. lol.

Thanks buddy
They said that the recalls need to be done cause it's a safety issue, And Ducati haven't sent the parts , I just spend over $7800 on the full exhaust system and stuff and now I can't get to use the bloody thing .
I don't know what the dealer is at , Anyone have the number for Ducati America?

Only time they can't release it prior to completing recall is when you haven't bought the bike (title has not transferred) yet. If it's already in your name, you can ride it until the parts are in and then get them installed.

Mine are all done over 3 separate trips to the dealer due to the timing of the parts arrival.

That's BS... I just have my dealer install the Full Akrapovic exhaust and 600 miles service.

They also waiting to get the parts from Ducati to do some of the recalls but they didn't ask me to keep my bike until they get the parts.

See above.

My buddy's been waiting over 3 weeks now for all the recalls to be done too and supposedly hes getting his new bike tomorrow. Told him the same thing, they couldnt release it no matter what.

Its the same for vehicles. I was looking at a new leftover 2017 truck and they had it advertised pretty cheap but they said they couldnt sell it to me until the recall was done and there was no set date for the part

Thanks buddy

just so you know (and i'll probably get some pushback here because just like your issue with the dealer, americans like to debate everything)....no recall isn't a safety issue. meaning 99% of all recalls are safety related because they wouldn't be a recall unless there is some sort of safety issue no matter how bogus or how made up the safety reason is. if the windshield scratches prematurely and you can't see, could be recall. if corrosion causes something to fall off and lead to a crash, could be a recall.

so i'm talking about a real recall, something that involves the government. not a fake recall which is anything else like a tsb or a rumor. of course recalls can be voluntary or involuntary but you'll find them listed on official government consumer websites because they require notification. afaik, there is no law that says recall work has to be done (for my car, i have declined a few) but it is true that a retailer cannot sell a product under recall. technically a consumer can't sell a product under recall either but when you have items with titles or items where the entire product is not recalled but some of the parts, may be a different story i dunno.

shouldn't the dealer provide you with a suitable replacement bike while they have yours? bet that would speed things up.

I may be wrong but anywhere in his comment did the OP say he took the bike from the dealer at least once or put any miles on it.

So I guess that as Nitrouz said, the bike may be brand new and the title hasn't been transferred yet. In that case, the dealer isn't allowed to release the bike.

yeah we don't know for sure. but when you say "my" bike, we assume his name is on the title. otherwise of course he has no rights to demand the dealer give him the bike, recall or no recall.

still, we've all heard similar stories. bring in an auto with bad tires on it and the dealer says by law he can't let you leave with no tread on those unsafe bald tires, you must buy new tires first. lol lol

Well if it's a safety issue it's a lot of liability on ducati and your dealer. What if you crash or your bike lights up on fire? People"could" be seriously injured or die, so I'm sure the last thing either ducati or your dealer wants is a lawsuit or what not.

Sucks to wait, but cant blame them. One of the reasons never to buy a first year model imo

If the dealership doesn't own the bike; I don't see how they can possibly tell somebody they can't take their bike home.

There are 2 speciales and one V4S sitting on the sales floor all sold a long time ago here. Dealer won’t and can’t releqse them because the recalls aren’t done. Same thing waiting on parts. And it’s not that they don’t want to release them, they can issue a Nevis form to the first owners until the recalls are done. How unfortunate for the new owners.

I don't understand why it is taking your dealersso long to precure parts. Mine got all the parts and installation done in under a week. You might want to lean on them a bit. Just my .02 cents.

Thanks guys, yes the bike is title in my name and fully paid for , my bike is going to the race track not the street , the dealer did say I could take it if I wanted to start putting the race bodywork on and other stuff but if I wanted to ride it he couldn't under a safety issue and liability.
I had him call Ducati yesterday and they have promised to have all the recalls done by Wednesday or I told them the can keep the bike and refund my cash .

Tell them you are going to phone the police if they don’t return your bike. It’s yours they can’t keep it until they want to give it back to you.

Finally purchased my V4s at Ducati Redmond yesterday (6-9-18). This was a bike they had just received and no outstanding recalls on it. Maybe that will change, but I guess the new shipments are at least arriving ready to go.
