First, Happy New Year's ladies and gents!

What better way is there to start the new year than with a short ride?

When you do, always remember to look /through/ the turn!!

Today I was out east near Monroe, and ahead of me was a slow 25mph uphill left hander, and though the ground was wet, it wasn't really of much concern. As I was approaching, my mind wandered and thought of, "Gee, what would happen if I slid here..." and my gaze drifted outwards towards the wet grass/mud/leaves beside me.

Sure enough, the bike follows where you look, and off I go. I'm sure glad that these things are as light as they are - perhaps it was the adrenaline - but I was able to pick her back up without a fuss. After a quick check for glaring damage, leaks, and cleaning the mud out from the moving bits - I rode out of the grass and slowly made it a bit before stopping again to check for damage - and a lovely photo op!!

I think I clipped the right mirror as I went off the bike, because she certainly went down on her left.

All things considered, having only a broken mirror and a snapped shift lever isn't the worst outcome I could've imagined. It's the first time I've gone down on a bike, and though I don't wish it to ever happen again, I'm glad it was relatively mild and I doubt I'll be 'afraid' to keep riding. I rode her home, after all. There was some weird ankle-rolling to get enough leverage to upshift but everything felt to be running in fine working order. The paint itself even held up extremely well! No cracked bodywork, no gouges or scratches to speak of. Just need to wash her down and she'll be good as new.

Oh, yeah, and that whole ordering a new mirror and rearset. :p

It's funny, because as upset as I was, I knew /exactly/ what I had done wrong as soon as I went off.

C'est la vie.

Glad you are OK and you and your bike weathered the event rather well.
I do like your approach to the incident.
You make an assessment of what you could have done wrong versus what the hell happened to me. ;)

the supercorsas aren't real fond of the wet. Is your traction control on stock settings.

Looks like you lucked out and not too much damage.

Looking where you want to go is like magic, but I get that to err is human. Glad you are okay and the damage iis minor.

Yeah, I'm fully aware and cognizant of the fact that I distracted myself with my own tangential thoughts and the bike...for lack of a better analogy...got distracted herself as well :p.

The DTC is indeed at it's stock settings - I was/am in Sport mode (5) - and I don't recall the handy-dandy amber light kicking in to signal something was up. Moreover, I didn't slide off the road so much as hit soft grass as I /rode/ off the road. Could've saved it if I were perfectly upright, but the front just sank, bit, and dipped me left. *shrug*.

The right mirror didn't flap at all in the wind, though, on the 15 mile ride home! Passed a couple Harley riders on the way, couldn't help but feel a squid-like at the time :p. Like having a giant zit on that first big date ;)

She still rides straight and true -> I take solace in the fact that there's life in her yet. :)

That totally sucks.

I'll bet the flapping mirror scuffed up the front end plastic even more :(

I would have grabbed a knife and cut it off. Gotta buy a new one anyway.
Or took off a bootlace and tied it to the mirror cutout, haha"¦.

I wear a set from Alpinestars that just happen to be velcro'd up, no laces >_<. I was tempted to try and tape it in place actually, but couldn't really find a good spot to set it, nor did I have tape on hand haha. There's some very minor black marking on the right knife edge of the front fairing, but it's just a scuff. Came right off once I rubbed it a bit. (That's...what she said?)

Well, look on the bright side; this is a perfect excuse to pickup a nice new set of rearsets that won't snap :) God knows the oem shift lever probably costs enough that it's be worth getting aftermarket rearsets. Should you decide to just pickup a new lever- I'd recommend checking eBay to save yourself some $$

Glad you and your bike fared mostly well.

That's exactly what I was thinking! I need a new mirror, too. It's a damn shame that all the replacement mirrors I've come across are so bloody ugly >_<.

Any suggestions for brands or anything else I should take a gander at?

Anyone got a set of mirrors or rearsets for sale? :p

Or use block offs...not a fan of those insect antennas:D

I've got my stock rearsets too, minus heel gaurds. I'll split those up as well as the mirrors. They aren't doing me any good sitting in the garage and I'm sure some day someone will need a right rearset and a left mirror.

Here's proof of life for the rearset lol

yeah when i crashed my bike on my left, i ended up breaking my right mirror as well...... very strange. Happy you didnt suffer more damage and its very minor.....

I'd offer you my mirrors but bwaide beat me to it and honestly his will be a better fit since he left the connector intact. I snipped them off and soldered them onto my Rizomas so you'd need to re-use the connector on your broken one if you bought mine. If you are still in need and bwaide has already sold his or something give me a shout.
