Here's proof of life for the rearset lol

PM'd!

Thanks for all the follow up offers. Bwaide and I've struck a deal.

I do absolutely feel it has saved my life in the future - won't make the same mistake twice, that's for sure!!

Happy New Year everyone, ride safe!!

"¦.. Passed a couple Harley riders on the way, couldn't help but feel a squid-like at the time :p. Like having a giant zit on that first big date ;)...

What, like Harley riders are going to laugh at you for stuff dangling off of YOUR bike instead of theirs? It's like being in the club for them.

Sorry to see that, when I crashed mine, I replaced my mirrors with the Kyle Racing Ti bar end mirrors, they are great, excellent visibility, I've had them up over 150mph with no deflection, and it cleaned up the front of my bike, I did not like the look of the stock mirrors.

Live and learn. Glad you're ok. Stuff like this is why my bike is on a battery tender (and has been since late Oct.) until April when the pavement is dry up here. I live like 10mi from where you crashed. PM me and I'll show you some awesome roads next season where you can ride hard and come home without a scratch.

edit: (tongue in cheek) Or maybe I don't want you riding with me. One has to question your sanity for running Ben Howard Road in Sport mode in the wet in near-freezing temps. Maybe you're just more of a man than I. LOL You might be up for one of these roads - great twisties, but 5 crosses on the roadside in 3 turns from fatal MC crashes. :(

BTW what was your ride home like? I remember lowsiding a '04 ZX-10R up in Lake Stevens and riding it home covered in mud. Reminded me of college girls and their morning walk of shame ha.

The phrase "Walk of shame" literally crossed my mind while riding home! In the end, it was my pride that was hurt more than anything else. Bikes can be fixed - in the end, they're just machines. Beautifully hand-sculpted machines, but machines nonetheless. She got a little muddy, but it's a christening of sorts. She's /mine/. She's gotten some character. We now have both good and bad memories. One must hit a low point every now and again - a walk of shame if you will - in order to truly appreciate the high points that are certainly to follow.

The ride itself was fine. I ended up adopting this interesting ankle roll to get my toe under what was left of the gear shift in order to upshift - downshifting was a non-issue. The DQS sensor even works just fine! All the hoses/lines down that side of the bike are untouched. It's nonsense.

The other part that really gets me is that I knew not to push the bike in those conditions - and I wasn't. I took the turn at the 20-25mph posted suggestion. It was merely my distracted thoughts that led to a lapse in focus and I simply stopped turning the bike and rode her straight into the grass. I was on the brake as I went off-road, which due to how soft the ground was I'm sure didn't help. (Sinking vice rolling), but they /also/ teach us (me at least) not to grab the front brake, with the intention of stopping at least, while leaning over. I tried to stop before the grass but I just didn't use enough of it I suppose.

The last thing I wanted to do at that point was lock the front and endo my arse into the air :p. (Non-abs panigale, mind you). A buddy of mine did exactly that on his CBR1000RR when a box truck drifted into his lane unannounced.

In the end, I'm always up for new roads and new lines. I'm not so insane as to blaze through a previously unridden/tested road, but +40F and dry are my criterion to ride :). 40F gets cold, so the rides get short, but I'll bop around a little nonetheless. I won't be this flexible forever, after all!!

Me I would have picked up the alloy shifting piece that snapped off and had it welded back on.

My mirror did that on my 848 and I figured out a way to re-screw it back on without any notice it was snapped.

That's exactly what I was thinking! I need a new mirror, too. It's a damn shame that all the replacement mirrors I've come across are so bloody ugly >_<.

Any suggestions for brands or anything else I should take a gander at?

Anyone got a set of mirrors or rearsets for sale? :p

Try the moto science ones from italy. I have a set on my bike and much clearer than std and a little smaller. LED not quite as bright but still work ok.

Ahhh! I remember seeing these somewhere before, but for the life of me I couldn't remember where to even begin trying to find them again.

Bwaide has already helped out with some parts, so I'll be sticking with the OEM ones for now. Thank you for the info though, they're certainly bookmarked this time around.

After reading your post, I went out and checked mine. Surprisingly they are still intact.

Well, that's ominous. I had noticed that my left hand now pinches between the tank and the bars when getting in and out of its parking space. I hadn't looked yet to confirm, but in my mind that means the steering stop is broke.

*head to desk*

Argh.

I'll have to look at it tomorrow and see just how much will need to be done. If it is snapped, I should be able to drive to where I dropped her and rummage it up to epoxy it back together. Pretty sure there were some tire marks and everything in the grass - can't be that hard to track down :p.

She stands fine on her own as it is, I feel getting it welded or epoxied so that I just don't pinch my hand while walking it in/out of spaces should suffice.
