Can anyone give me help removing front nose piece. Can't remove the 4 plastic screws from under the headlight.I thought they were the kind where you push the center to release, but no luck. Thanks all
No, they just pop straight out, no centre pin to push in. just need a flat blade screwdriver.
BTW, I found the biggest pain in the ... was getting the mirrors back on, the right side more than the left. Ducati in their infinite wisdom and the constant battle to reduce weight have supplied you with just enough wire to reconnect your indicator. I don't have big fingers and I struggled to reconnect this. Top tip: get someone to hold the mirror up while you try to reconnect or you may be there a while.
Also, (without looking at my bike) there is a screw directly under the headlight which needs to come out, getting it out is easy enough, it was putting it back in that caused a problem. Spoke to a Ducati mechanic in the uk as it wouldn't line up for love nor money and he was just full of ...... In the end I got right in there (its a bit awkward, might want to get a mirror and a torch) and it turns out that there is a metal clip (see picture) in there that can move about, I just slid it out and put it back in after a bit of a tweak. Screw went back in no probs after that. With any luck you won't have any prob at all.
I removed both side, mostly because I was bored and quite intrigued/nosey about how it came apart/went together. Once everything is out it still requires a little effort to get the nose cone off. There is a small rubber bung right behind the centre of the light that holds it on. Just make sure all bolts are out before you start ragging the front end off your bike. Any drama's come back and I'm sure as a forum we can get you sorted. I will try to upload my how to for getting the side panels off if you need it.
EDIT:
hawaiiduc - the how to is too big to upload, if you need it send me your email address and i'll get it sent to you
I struggle with that rubber bung at the tip of the nose. I feel like its going to tear if I pull any harder and I've been pulling on it hard. How resilient is that thing anyway?
Maybe I'll have a few drinks tonight and build up the courage to pull it off with brute force. For now, I won't be able to mount my new windshield.
i am pretty sure you dont have all the screws done. there are 2 bolts by the headlights one on each side. (the outer most ones.) that is connected to the nose fairing. once those are out and depending on your dealer you may have the wires zip tied through the fairing. dont just yank things. there are clasps that could break then your screwed.
you can get the front off without the sides off but i dont recommend that you may scratch something.
in total there are 4 of those things pictured above and 2 bolts plus that rubber plastic thing on the nose. use some wd40 to get it out and put it back. i have taken off the front 3 times. hardest thing to do is put the mirrors back on. take a video of how the wires sit
Use some white grease on the rubber grommet once it is off, and future removals will go a lot easier. The grommet only locates the nose of the fairing - the two side bolts (near the headlight), the center bolt (under the headlight), and the mirror bolts all do the lions share (besides it also being attached to the side fairings).
