Replacing the stock engine tubes

thedak, my R rarley gets over 210 in traffic here in SW Florida, I wonder if you have a water flow issue, are your fans kicking on at 210?

Fan is def working. I can feel it on my leg at a stop.

I bled the system and will see what happens next time I get it out.

May replace the factory antifreeze with premixed water wetter as well.

I was going to ask how much of a PITA was this job? Several months ago I had a coolant leak. Turned out to be from the T-stat housing. I couldn't see any way to gain access to tighten the hose clamps attached to the housing let alone replace the hoses. In my case the dealer applied the "replace it all" method to fix the problem. They replaced every coolant hose, clamp and housing under warranty. He said he had to nearly dissemble the bike to replace them all lol.

Similar to Anthem, I did *not* replace the two smaller tubes - as this is a MAJOR PITA exercise. All other tubes were replaced and is simply a time hassle effort job.

I did not source the parts from ebay ;-)

Ha - called out on those two pieces. . .. just kidding. . . Yeah, when the tech and I looked at it we were like "lets wait until we need to get in there to replace those two, that doesn't look like its worth it". . . . .

Mine were from racebikebitz which is a pretty big samco distributor. . Ironically its cheaper to buy it in pounds and ship it from the UK (where samco is) than it is to buy from their US distributor. . . . I would venture to guess the ebay one is pretty safe in this regard since its out of the UK as well. . I got the kit from RBB with the staineless hose clamps and it looks to be fairly straightforward outside of the two difficult to replace pieces. ..

....for those interested in better heat transfer/reduced temps...from Motul:

-- it is not an anti-freeze, but actually does what most believe Engine Ice does

Motul - All Products - MoCool

MOCOOL

TYPE OF USE
Any cooling system of bikes, cars, ATVs"¦ when overheating is observed or in racing conditions to
decrease engine operating temperature.
ATTENTION :
- Some racing regulation do not allow anything else than pure water, if any doubt, check with race
official organisation before using MoCool. Motul company cannot be involved in case of race
disqualification while using MoCool inappropriately.
- MoCool does not provide any antifreeze protection.
PERFORMANCES
Engines run cooler by 15°C (30°F) : Improves thermal exchange and engine cooling system
efficiency.
Cooling system optimal protection against corrosion.
Recommended for magnesium, aluminium alloys cases, cast iron, copper, brass and bronze systems.
Water pump protection, avoid cavitation
Anti-corrosion properties that remain while high temperature and ageing. Low corrosion inhibitors
consumption.
Seals, rubber pipes, and plastics parts friendly.
RECOMMENDATIONS
MOTUL MoCool is a concentrated cooling fluid that may be mixed with distillated water for immediate
use as a coolant.
Mix with water at 5% (20:1).
Do not use pure product.
Can be mixed with most coolants monoethyleneglycol based.

He Ha Ha .. I reckon it would be easier to remove the engine to get at them small hoses ;-) ... I also got mine from racebikebitz :)

I am very happy with the Red tubing. I have the Ducati Performance Race Tubing kit (red and aluminum) on my 1098 S.

Now, I have to ask ... I have the Titanium Color CNC (coat of arms) Clutch Cylinder Slave on the bike .. you got that too ?

Nope. No clutch slave - I just use my forearm muscles :). I don't usually swap the clutch slave so left it alone on this one too.

I need to do something. This R runs much hotter than my base.

If I'm not at highway speed it sits at 213-221F the entire time.

Hasn't even been hot yet this year.

Water wetter, engine ice, heck, even plain water. Anything but antifreeze.

-- you should probably check your coolant level, as the R, when moving, should be below 200

-- also, check out the product from Motul (see post #24, scroll up) and their new product MoCool - an additive which claims to reduce temperatures

Anyone care to elaborate on the installation and the two smaller hoses. I have the SAMCO kit as well but have yet to install it. I was wondering about access to the engine end of the upper rad hose and how easy that is to get at
