Thanks everyone, you've all been really helpful, I think it's going to be the S model for me, particularly when looking at used Year old ones, a base was £13995 and an S is £16500, seems a bit of a no brainer to me.

Got me a very low kms 1199S end of last year, paid 2,5K less than base new price! Couldn't refuse the offer, haven't regretted it for 1second afterwards.
If you have the chance get the used S! Mine had 2600km on the odo that's nothing :D

You paid 18000 Euros for your used S??

Thats a great deal...... For Europe... :)

I know .. Thats 10K€ off newprice options included ;)

At first i had my senses set on a red/white 2012 R1 50th anniversary, brand new bike at the local yamaha. It came with pvm wheels and akra slipons installed for 17200. However, then i saw the ad for the ducati @ the same price

Last weekend we had the entry-season-days at the yamaha shop, the R1 was still for sale. So the sales guy asked if i had decided already.. When i confirmed yes a 2nd hand duc, he wanted to see the bike. Then he said the exact same thing :D

for me the bike is pure joy!

That does sound like a great deal for a used S, here there are 1 year old S's for between £16000 and £17000, so around €19000 but with very low miles, some have less than 1000, I think you did the right thing buying the 1199 over the R1, out of all the litre bikes the R1 has really been left behind, to me now the best 3 are the 1199, S1000RR and the RSV4, from Japan only Kawasaki seem to be making the effort to keep up at the moment, Euro brands all the way at moment!!.

Fireblade is the one left behind the most. Even the ABS system is rather large and antiquated. Stll an awesome bike fir the road, though. I guess our perception and expectations simply has changed.
But, back to the topic, yes ducati is a great decision.

Completely agree. It was a very good deal and not via a shop, still have 1 year factory guarantee so there was less risk buying directly from owner.
The crossplane r1 still looks ok in 50th anni and it's a nice engine. I am curious what the r1 2015 will be like, it could be as good as s1000rr. Rumours are 200+HP, however the 1199s wil be my main bike for the next 5 years i think! S1000rr and rsv4 don't even come close in looks compared to the panigale.

The FB is very nice to commute, i think they will launch a complete new FB in 2016, after the new 2015 R1. At that point all bikes will be near 200HP, today japan is indeed way behind. Around 2017/8 we'll also see the next 1199, wonder how that will look! What will we get GP HP? :D

I still really like the Fireblade and think it's a good bike, I've owned 2 in the past (2006 and 2003) and have nothing but good memories of them, if Honda put some effort in with the redesign I would be more than likely to buy another one but no way would I consider one at the moment.
I don't know why but I've got the feeling the 2015 R1 is going to be a let down, I hope I'm wrong though, I love the old R1s but the 2009-2014 is down on power and looks more like a sports tourer, I seriously think the S1000RR is a prettier bike, yes I know I currently own one and think it's great but I can freely admit it's ugly.

I paid 17200€ for an 2013 S, termi slipons, DP seat included :D

That is a great deal but depressing from a resale value point of view. The 1199 is not holding value very well at all. I thought it would have stabilized by now but they're still tanking. :(

I have to say that the seller mentioned he put the price low for a quick sell. Others Ads were asking around 20k and 21k that time. And bike was indeed sold after 1 day, think i just got lucky :) on the other hand, the 20k/21k bike adds remained unsold.
