We got it right, all through the post it is pretty clear - and none of us are experts, just 1199 lovers.
Its a 12 mm Hex. Always was. Just another example of bad advice on the forum by the "experts".

Probably the simplest tech question EVER asked on this forum, and we screwed it up, people got pissed, answered correctly multiple times - and people are still asking

Yes a 12mm Hex will work but it is not the right tool for the job.
It's kind of similar to a close fitting metric or imperial bit that gets the job done but you know it's not the right size...
We all know that a Hex has 6 sides.
A Torx has 6 points and is similar in shape to a star.
A Spline is similar to a Torx but has 12 points.... This is the bolt on our bar ends.
So for the record, a 12mm Hex will work but the right tool is a 12mm Spline.
