Meh I’m not going to play the stock market. Just continue to dollar cost average into stocks I believe in and am interested in and good index funds. I’ve got 30 years until retirement. Keeping a bit more cash on had in these times just in case. Might start putting money into gold as it seems to appreciate during turbulent times

so many lazy european leeches lived off free USAID moneys, its unbelievable.

and the whole Ukraine is a scam of biblical proportions. So funny to see them saying 500bln wasnt a loan but a free helicopter money grant.

The people and family I have there, one in particular who now has her home in occupied territory, might disagree with you.

As for USAID money - no doubt. Many countries are good at throwing money at countries that don't need or deserve it, but it's never given without getting something in return.

Anyway, how's that Nazi gold - run out yet or still plenty left? 🫣 🤣

Another reason why they might disagree is

Ukrainians get helicopter money in some of EU countries, e.g. Germany. A mate who is married to an ukranian girl (who came long time ago to study to germany) has told me about a common social payment scam that lots of ukranians do :

Germany provides free social benefits to ukranians, i.e. they pay their rents
An ukrainian rents an apartment. Usually job center pays rent directly to the landlord, but a tenant can ask job center to pay rent to him instead so he pays the landlord. So they do that and after few months stop paying the landlord.
Guess what, german laws are such that the landlord is unable to evict a refugee ukranian

The reason he told me that, is that his Ukrainian wife wants to rent out their apartment in germany and they refuse to rent it to ukranians.

If she wanted to live under Putin’s rule she’d have moved to Russia. You think it’s laudable that Russians would allow her to return? Like it should be their decision to make?

Giving money to rebuild stuff they destroyed in a territory they have occupied? That’s the very definition of generous…

I find it quite sad that you are seemingly supporting a country that has brought war back to Europe. Personally, I find it unforgivable. If you think Putin’s words can be trusted then I have a bridge I’d like to sell you.

There are a lot of foreigners in the UK who get social housing and then rent it out. It’s not a scam that’s exclusive to Ukrainians. It also doesn’t represent all Ukrainians and doesn’t justify them being invaded and occupied. Nothing justifies it.

I think you didn't even bother to read what I posted.

They rent out a place, they ask to get paid money to them instead of the landlord, they then screw the honest German landlord by not paying him and they refuse to move out.

You do understand that this is a pure scam.

You might not care buddy, but there are plenty of people who actually do care about this sort of thing. Give someone like Putin an inch and he’ll want the proverbial mile.

Maybe now they are in Europe they can sue European politicians who fueled this war instead of fixing the root causes.

Anyway, coming back to Trump, he is great as he tries to stop it and not fuel it into WW3.

I hate to use that nuclear bunker in my local mountain.

The man is a war criminal. And then after causing all that chaos in the Middle East (with the US) he has the nerve to become a peace envoy to the Middle East. You couldn’t make it up… Bringing this stuff up is pretty much ‘whataboutism’ though and doesn’t justify or excuse what’s happening.

In all of these situations I blame the aggressor - Blair and the US in Iraq, Cameron off to Libya to ruin the place and remove Gadaffi, and Putin invading Ukraine (and meddling in loads of other places). I don’t care if it’s the East or West, ‘democracies’ or whatever. It goes on and on and on… How many days of peace in the last 2,000 years? Three? Four? What an utterly hopeless species.

Underlying all of this, and what most of these conversations ignore, are real people and families who simply want to live their lives. Ukrainians are no more inherently corrupt than anyone else - they simply had the misfortune to be born into a corrupt system in which they need to survive. You play the hand you are dealt. They deserve a new deck.

It’s easy to judge from the comfort of where we happen to have been born, but most people have simple needs for their lives and if they earn enough through honest means to pay their bills and raise their families then they generally don’t feel the need to do anything beyond that. Keep people down and you get corruption through necessity (rather than corruption through greed).

At what cost. Appeasement has never worked and Russians recognise it as weakness.

Bringing it back to Trump, don’t you think it’s rather odd to have Russia and the US deciding on the future of another country while trying to carve up its natural assets between them. This doesn’t make you feel somewhat uncomfortable? No moral issues with that hostile takeover and asset stripping?

Maybe Trump thinks Russia, China, etc are the future and he wants to align the US with them, but they are fundamentally different systems.
