Do any of you notice the heat? LOL just kidding.

Advice from my mechanic:

1. If weight is not the issue, there is no functional difference between the stock headers and Akro headers. Same dimensions, same routing. So a slip-on with stock pipes is a step that will yield real results in power and sound etc etc without the cost.

2. Ceramic coating on the INSIDE of the stock pipes (or the Ti pipes) will reduce radiant heat *from the pipes* by +/- 20dF. Engine heat stays pretty constant.

So, guess what my winter project is likely to be?

Discuss.

Looking at the loop under the seat between stock and Akra and you can see they are different. BUT, there is only 1%-2% HP and TQ difference, saving $2k and only being down 2%(4HP) is not bad.

I don't get how a person who is a mechanic by trade would look at those and say they are the same. The routing is clearly different. They are functionally the same as they both move exhaust gas from the engine to the mufflers but one does so while giving a slight boost in power. I also don't remember the stock pipes being joined together like they are in the Akra full system but its been a while since I've looked at the stock system I took off.

I know its subjective but the Akra pipes look better IMO.

Perhaps the 2020 is the same either way? ie different from prior years? Or perhaps I misunderstood the gist of his comments. His point was bang-for-the-buck was in a slip-on and ceramic coating. Especially with a full fairing. This is from a highly qualified and deeply experienced technician. So the fault In the message lies with me.

If bang for the buck is what your're looking for, I'd consider leaving it stock to be honest. Especially considering install costs if you're not wrenching yourself.

Just to clarify, you're talking about the racing slip on and not the road legal one right?

Motowheels has the racing slip-on for $3,749.00 and the full kit for $5,295.00 so $1,500 more for the full. I know it easy to suggest expensive stuff when spending someone else's money, but if it were me, and it was I bought a full kit, that's the route I'd take. The compromise I made for that was to get the Streetfighter V4 and not the V4S, figuring I'd upgrade to an Ohlins shock and fork inserts when I wore out the stock stuff.

But, if its not in the budget then its not in the budget.

The road legal slip-on is $4,995 and looks...eh.

Thanks. My focus is more on the ceramic coating. There are lots of other things to spend money on before a replacement muffler.

Heated grips. It annoys me to no end there's a button for it but no heat unless you spend $365ish.

I’m running the jesters slip ons and heat is down a lot. I’m
Guessing it’s because the cat is gone and the exhaust flows out quicker not backing up the heat.

If you just did the slip on ‘s? How do you get around the check engine light with the servo motor? Thanks

Do we need to do a upmap ? I like that look this cs racing and the fm project gives. The arrow sound good But I think it just looks eh

I've got Jester's slip ons that I had ceramic coated inside and out along with the headers being ceramic coated inside and out. Heat is not an issue for me on the bike anymore. I can ride with regular jeans in stop and go traffic in 35C weather and not feel like my leg is burning.

On my 1199 I had the exhaust coated and I found that it was harder to put together since the outer diameter increased. In hindsight, I thought if I only had the inside coated it would have been a problem. Did you have any trouble installing it?
