Interesting. Removes a system that burns unburnt fuel AND eliminates backfiring on deceleration? Would seem like it would increase the amount of unburnt fuel, which should increase popping on decel (which I happen to prefer).

Yeah.....and I'd hate to see what these extra unburnt hydrocarbons do to the OE exhaust's catalytic converters. With an aftermarket exhaust this might help reduce the well documented heat issues, though. I remember back during the '70s, when air injection was used on cars during the infancy of emissions control, it was not uncommon to open the hood at night and see the cast iron exhaust manifolds glowing red because of the heat generated by the combustion of excess hydrocarbons in the exhaust headers. The same phenonenon is occuring on our bikes, so I'd be interested to see if header temperatures are reduced by this measure.

Might not be a bad thing with an aftermarket exhaust as long as the ecu doesn't misinterpret the now altered O2 measurements and foul up the fueling curve.
 
I'm waiting for the CF version ;) I would like to hear a real-world application where it actually made a difference. Plus the warranty, plus it looks ugly....
 
They look nice, I did this to my 2007 R1 years ago, and with the full akras on, it definitely helped.
 
I had Graves smog block off plates on my old R6, helped eliminate some back firing
 
I'm grabbing some right now. Emissions crap can get off my bike. I'm going to need them for when Bazzaz release their 1199 module and AFM to tune the bike for an Akra system.

i just got off the phone with my dealer- he talked to Ducati, and not only will they not authorize him to install them, but they will not cover any fuel related issues under the warranty if they are installed. So I am returning mine.

Or you could reinstall them should an issue arise? These should not damage anything. Go Ducati! I'm installing mine this weekend.
 
I'm going to return them. I don't want to have to mess with it when they don't really provide any measurable benefit.
 
I did mine yesterday. I capped the hoses in case I needed to put the original parts back on. I can tell it's working too, I can smell the awesome now. Haven't taken it out yet, will do later and post if it has fixed some of the odd backfiring and or undertail heat.

The bolts on the original plates are made of butter, be very careful.
 
Update, I can tell the plates are working. They've eliminated the backfires caused by the AIS.
 
Do you have termis? If not, your flow isn't enough to work the reed valves as much and there is less of an ignition of the unburned fuel, ie backfire. Not to mention the butterfly valve. Also, with the QS, that fuel isn't burned for that millisecond and ignites as well. Without the AIS providing additional oxygen post ignition, there is no ignition source.

PS I also looked at the microfiche again. I'm going to go back in and remove the tubes. I used brass plugs with worm screws to plug the hoses. I'm going to wait until the rest of my parts come in though.

Yeah, shifting through 2nd and 3rd sounds like a gun shot if I do it right before I got these plates. If you experienced the same, you may reconsider putting them on lol. Not to mention if you plan to get a Dynojet or Bazzaz with another exhaust system, you have to block the AIS.
 
Here is the unit below the airbox. The hoses connect here, and is where I've chosen to cap the system off. I've noticed cooler temps for my bum and honestly seems like the bike. Also, I want to say it's idling better.
