Smooth Gear Shifts?

On the track, my gear shifts from 2nd to 3rd are, unfortunately, not buttery smooth. In fact, every now and then, I can swear I'm sitting on a bucking bronco. What's your track day experience with gear shifting? Perhaps I'm doing something wrong?

Same! Shifter setup as it was from factory. Sometimes it locks me out of 3rd u til I release pressure on the shifter and try again.

I was going to flip it to race shift and make sure the linkage is looking good, but I’m not changing over until I change the oil and install the exhaust, all at the same time.

I will be asking the dealer abt this when they check over the bike at the first service

i had the same 3rd gear issue as you have after i installed a trans logic shifter to replace the ducati unit. the heim joint was binding slightly because i used a little too much loctite and some got into the joint. i cleaned it up and used a drop of wd40 on it and problem is gone now.

OK this gave me the idea to switch to GP shift. I was on track yesterday with GP shift for the first time ever. I loved it. Gear shifts are much less violent now (in fact, I'd use the word "smooth."). For those who are wondering, let me tell you that your brain rewires quickly to GP shift, but you do have to keep reminding yourself that you go up not down or vice versa, otherwise muscle memory takes over. I repeatedly said it out loud before every turn or shift point inside my helmet as I began to pick up speed and everything worked fine. For this bike, for this track, GP shift is just right.

BTW, the switch from standard to GP shift is fairly straightforward. While doing that, I noticed a lot of debris and chain gunk. WD 40 was used to clean up the area thoroughly and that too probably helped.

Use rear sets with ball bearings on shifter for less play in linkage, I originally had the DP rear sets and switched to the attacks and found it much better. I also use gp shift, converted to the cordona quicksifter, and have the evo2 software (idk if that makes a diff but some say so). Shifting now is super smooth and I never have a miss-shift.
