Hi guys,

Just wanted to introduce myself and start reading up some more on the bike.

I have a Tricolore on order. Should be here in 2 weeks. I have been waiting to buy a Ducati for about 10 years and am about to drop the large on something which I consider one of the most amazing motorcycles ever.

That being said, I am now not feeling so good about it with the recalls, heat issues and the 'R' now being released and am wondering have I made the right decision? I want to use it everyday, both road and track, and am prepared to make some sacrifices knowing it is a superbike, and not a commuter. I've had sportsbikes all my life (GSXR's/ZX10R, etc) and know that riding a sportsbike every day isn't the easiest thing, but I want the enjoyment of riding something that I am pouring my hard earnt into and loving every minute of.

I'd be curious for any other Tri owners, or just owners in general and especially guys in Aus that could give me their impression and help me lock in my decision.

Thanks all, looking forward to being active.

BTW - I used to run a business as a motorcycle detailer (not just a washer) so I am happy to offer any advice on keeping your ride 100%

Cheers,
MoZ

Moz,

Welcome to the forum!

I got the Tri and am loving it. Would buy it again in a heartbeat. Yes there are some recalls, but they are minor, a pain in the ass for sure, but minor nonetheless.

In your case they should all be taken care of before they even deliver the bike for you anyway.

The heat, well....... it reduces with the Termis end cans, which you will get with the Tri anyway. It's really only an issue at all in heavy traffic or stopped not while riding above 60-70 km/hr. Apparently it reduces further with the full headers, and if you read the forum there's some other tips also like ceramic coating etc.

That said, I live in the Middle East and my bike probably runs a few degrees hotter than anybody elses and I find it bearable. There are a few people here who think it's too much but ......... a friend of mine tell's me they got a medicine for that in Yorkshire called "Man the .... up" ;-) (Joking!! Don't troll me!)

The 2013 R, I read that too , well ..... there's always a better bike next year, doesn't matter what you buy. However the Tri is usually only available for one year of the model. Add to that that an R is usually significantly more expensive, and to be fair an SP model is more likely IMHO.

Thanks for the welcome Delta One.

I had a look at your post. That bike is just stunning. Well done on meeting Nicky as well BTW.

I must admit I agree with the Tri being special and has been one of the foundations of why I bought the model I did. I originally had a 1098 Tri lined up years ago when they came out however my stage in life was not right.

I had a good look and I think the R would be around $65K here in Aus, and I just can't justify that, so the Tri will sort me for the next few years as now I build a collection.

Cheers,

G'day Moz,

Who did you order your bike through? I got mine from Brisbane Motorcycles but am far from happy with their service department.

Apart from a few minor things and a coolant weep that I have had my bike back three times for, I can't be happier with my S model. I took it out to Queensland Raceway on Saturday for a track day and it is truly unbelievable on the track. So easy to ride fast!

Myself and Bdunn from the forum go for a ride every couple of weeks, so if you are keen for a ride when you get your bike, let me know.

Cheers

Hey PanigaleS,

I ordered mine through Ducati Noosa. I made one phone call to BM at the start and was immediately unimpressed. I have dealt through John at Noosa before when I was going to buy the 1098 Tricolore but couldn't go through at the time. So far, I have had a very pleasant experience and should pick it up in about 2 weeks time.

Would be up for a ride definitely. When I get it it will become my everyday ride so will be aiming for every ride I can.

Cheers,
MoZ

'Ow Do MoZ

You won't regret buying the 1199 no matter what model. The Tri is just breathtakingly awesome and you shouldn't get the teething problems that the early bikes had - it should be all sorted.
As a Yorksire fella, I agree with what Delta said but since I live in the highlands of Scotland, the additional heat at low speeds is a nice touch for the climate :D Honestly, the heat isn't an issue when you're doing more than 50kph.
If you get the Tri, you can always upgrade it with all the bells 'n' whistles to be same spec as the R/SP but possibly a little cheaper.
Tri - no brainer!!!
My In-Laws live around BrisVegas (Caboolture, Maryborough & Wynnum) and Bro-inlaw has been keeping his eyes open for 1199's but hasn't seen one yet in the flesh - i'll tell him to keep looking and he'll see one (plenty of you boys from Brissy)
Keep Smilin and enjoy the Tri - you know it makes sense :D

I got my Tri about 6 weeks ago. I came from a '10 RSV4 R. I simply love it. Honestly, I had to warm up to it. A bit more jerky than my Aprilia. However, with the unreal ability to manipulate so much electronically, you can really customize it. I do no track and only road, and commute daily with it (I know, ridiculous, but I love it). As far as the heat, it may be bike specific. I can feel the heat, but nothing painful. My RSV4 was hot as hell too, just in different places. So has been a non-issue, and I've been stuck in traffic in hot weather. I will say my riding pants do handle it much better than jeans. I also have the race seat, which has a lot more padding so may be helping. I may consider ceramic if it is a problem. But really is not a big deal. I am still a bit remorsefull just due to spending this much on a motorcycle. Never the wisest financial decision. But I can say there is not anotther bike out there period that think is nearly as awesome. And I LOVE having ABS and the traction control. A big step up from the Aprilia. So no regrets, and in fact I love it more and more as time goes on.

Oh, and as far as recalls go, I had a ton on my Aprilia too. I take it as normal that such new technology will have a bunch of recalls. Everytime my Aprilia was in they had some small recall to also do. So that stuff doesn't phase me at all. Just stay on top of them with your dealer/mechanic.

Very excited. Bike is being delivered tomorrow!!!

Will post up some pics once it is here. I know you have all seen a Tricolore before, but it is a massive moment for me and I want to share it.

Cheers,

So you up for a ride next weekend?

So first things first. My god is it breathtakingly beautiful. What a bike!

@ PanigaleS...LOL.. not sure.

Got it, took it out for it's inaugural ride and the shifter linkage bolt loosened and jammed, so I couldn't shift.

Luckily I got home and it fell out in the driveway but the linkage arm to the gearbox will need replacing as the first thread is stripped.

Am laughing about it at the moment. Not the best and not overly happy but have had much worse before so hopefully will just get it sorted.

When that is good, sure, definitely up for a ride :)
