Sprint air filter

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

Nobody, myself included, is going to be able to change an air filter and notice a difference. An air filter MIGHT add 1-2hp, and nobody can notice 1-2hp on a bike that makes over 180hp to begin with. Nobody's butt dyno is that good, mine included.

But I see it all the time on every forum "change the air filter and man the bike is so much better" or "bike pulls so hard after the new air filter". I have to call BS on that, unless the OEM filter was completely blocked off and NO air was getting past it.

The same can be said for just about any individual modification. Nobody is going to change several bolts to Ti, or put Ceramic Bearings in the wheels, or change to a lightweight battery and then be able to notice a difference in speed/lap times.

Any of those little things in an of themselves wont make a big difference, but they are all pieces of the puzzle that make a good race bike. On a street bike, I wouldn't bother until it is time for a new filter anyway.

Agreed.
Luckily for me I need a new filter, it's a track bike, I like working on my bike (within my limits), and i get a general satisfaction from my effort to improve the bike and my riding, little by little, over time.

Agreed 100%. I've seen this discussion many times as well here and on the RSV4 forum and all the actual data I've seen shows no significant performance increase. I did see data showing better flow from the Sprint filters vs others as oil coated filters showed to be more restrictive but not any major HP gains. Must be the placebo effect... New shiny parts = more HP (in your mind):D

I will say that I'll be changing to Sprint because it sounds like a good product and the fact that I can just use air to blow it out and clean it without the oil hassle is a major bonus to me.

Sprint Filter Material/Design: Top!
Sprint Filter Sales and Customer service: Sucks.
WSBK P16: bought it for the SL, have not installed it yet. Filter assembly into the CF frame must have been done by a disabled guinea pig under ritaline shooting around with a hot-melt glue gun.
Wouldn't install P16 for street usage, I just have the feeling that it's too open for dirt, sand (abrasive stuff in general).
I'll throw away my MWRs, terrible mess to clean and a ..... to install.

Not to laugh at your misfortune; but that is a funny statement! :)

Placebo effect is stronger with motorcycles than probably anything in the world.

Installed the P08 Filter and Bella was immediately able to suck a golf ball thru a garden hose.. Way better performance and bike ran alot better too

You will be sucking more than a golf ball if Mr ARSEHAMMER hears about this

Well thank you Mr Chaotic, glad someone had the balls to come out and call a spade a spade. Things go in fashions here on this forum. A while back it was MWR filters and now its the sprint. I replace a lot of bolts for Ti on my bike but I have never noticed a difference in perceived weight. I sometimes laugh at the exaggerated HP gains achieved.

I recall one that claimed 10 hp from a filter change.

I only gained 9 hp from a TB custom tune, MWR Race filter and a full Ti Akra EVO system. Same dyno Same conditons. I got a baseline on that dyno then went back few weeks later and we got an extra 9.2hp. But some guy gets 10 hp from a filter alone. Give me a break.

Rant over.

No doubt. The bikes are so good these days, nobody can do just one mod (especially a little one like a filter or bolts or battery) and notice a difference.

A full exhaust, filter, tuner and custom dyno tune...sure. Because with those items you gained 8-12hp and shaved 10-15lbs off the bike. That is enough to notice.

The other things are just pieces of the puzzle.

On every race bike, I will change to a lightweight battery, change all nuts/bolts below the suspension to Titanium, cut the rear rotor (makes it lighter and less "grabby"), have ceramic bearings in the wheels, change to a lightweight fairing stay and subframe and a few other random little things. Any one of those mods in and of itself won't make a huge difference, but all of those things together make up a better race bike. And when chasing tenths, every little bit helps.

Oh I didn't know Bellisimoto carried it. Didn't see it on their site so I ordered from MotoWheels.

Bellissimoto doesn't sell Sprint. Contact zohsix01, Ducati Omaha or Brock's Performance. Start with zohsix01 though.

He's got hundreds of 1199's and 1299's. Complete bikes that have been parted out. He can even get you parts not even known to be available to the general public. Any part you want, he's got it for the low!
