So has anyone here had the sprocket & chain kit upgrade done? I have ordered mine they said it will mainly benefit track riding, it has 2 teeth more on the rear and will cost about $300. What's the verdict, worth it? Oh it comes with a map to suit the change.

Hot?

Only if the engine is running

Just kidding... Yes it gets hot but nothing for me to worry about, no worse than my other Ducati's or other sport bikes. I am fine with it.

The sprocket change is an upgrade that is not a recall, but an option if you want it, it came because it the realease of the R so Ducati is offering this for the non R bikes.

I have tried two local dealers here in the UK and neither have the chain or sprocket kit in yet. I will do it once one of them gets the stuff in though.

To the forum police... Lighten up Francis. ;) Yes, redundancy is a bit annoying. But take note how those threads often get off track and how little has actually been mentioned from those who have done it. I think it's nice sometimes to reboot a thread and get back to a specific question, such as is it worth it? Is it simply a benefit for the track? Reading through pages of gearing talk, different brands of sprockets and all of that is a bit cumbersome (indeed, many of them get very off track and very large, making them appropriate to go to the thread graveyard and allow a new, younger, faster, stonger thread to emerge), and of course the 20% of the conversation mocking those who repeat questions. So I for one appreciate a renewal of a poignant question. Not always, but here I’d love to hear specific experienced response from those who make the change. Now the heat.....ok, that horse is dead. Agreed.

My dealer called me yesterday and said the sprocket and chain is in so I dropped my bike off last night. I will get the bike back today or tomorrow and report back the difference. Total cost for sprocket, chain and install (.75 hours labor) = $334.00

Ask Dan to read the upmap name/code off the machine when he loads it. That is the only way to tell. Then post it here.

Have questioned my dealer about this upgrade also. So far there is no kit offered in the system. You can get the chain and sprocket but there is no "special discount" being offered yet.

Through Desert Desmo I can offer a chain and sprocket kit comprising a new Supersprox 15t front, a Supersprox 41t rear, and a new RK GB525GXW chain for $268 plus shipping. There's also a 520 conversion in 15/41/GB520GXW I can offer for $203. Rear sprockets are a steel chain ring riveted to an aluminum hub, so you get a fair compromise between reduced weight and longevity. If you buy the complete kit it comes with a lifetime warranty!

Rear sprockets are available with either a gold or black anodized hub. They look like the ones in the upper right of the pic below, with both colors shown for reference:

Summary:
No reason to go with a Ducati kit. AFAM/RK and the aforementioned kits are going to be less expensive and lighter.

You can go with 520 without worrying about longevity and I've had Alum rear sprockets last longer than stock steel ones.

The upgrade dramatically increases the power delivery and grin factor.

Note:
Do not do the upgrade if 3rd gear wheelies scare you.

one issue...if you fit it and it does mess with the DTC or you get ecu faults related to this your warranty is VOID............................i was told by UK dealer a map has to be installed........................

I just had my sprocket changed yesterday, without the map. It's taken forever since both dealers here wouldn't originally do it without the map being available, then changed their minds. I only took it out for a short spin last night, but no error codes, DTC errors. DQS works, but feels a little sluggish compared to previously. Hopefully I'll get out to test it this weekend if the weather cooperates. So far, I can tell you it spins up very quickly. The front wheel is light even at half throttle 2nd/3rd. Cruising speed RPMs obviously are much higher, almost a 1000 RPMs.
