Stickiest Tires Available

Lets look at the OP's original question which is "stickiest tires available" with the OP's caveat "not concerned with warm up times, longevity, or price". So based on those parameters, the Q3 is "king of the hill" ??? How or should the Q3 even be in the discussion when their own manufacturer won't even put them as their best tire for race traction ?

Let me help you out.

DOT tires only get so good.

SC's are probably as good as it gets for dry stickyness, and the Q3 isnt far behind.

For DOT tires, the Q3's are at the top of the hill at this moment. Reason is price for performace, value.

Your talking about a small window here that a DOT has here.

There is a reason the Q3 is so popular, and price does help, but it is the performance that is loved by the large amount of us that use them.

Here, let me help /you/ out. . Stickiest tire regardless of tire warming requirements, longevity or price. That is the question. Not stickiest that will last longer, or cheaper than $150, or that comes in purple colors.

If price is no object, longevity is no object and temperature warmers are not a concern - if the Q3 was the best out there, don't you think Dunlop would tell everyone (and especially their club racers) to use the Q3 ? Well guess what ? Dunlop isn't doing that. In fact they tell people their 212/GPA are the best out there (and it /is/ an amazing tire).

BTW - SC's come in DOT tires (actually majority of their SC's are DOT and not the race slicks in SC compound) - so if you are conceding SC's are better and Q3's are behind, then you've just proven the point.

SC's are at the top, imho and it gets debateable.

And they do grip a hair better then the Q3, but offer less midline stability for me and may others.

if the Q3 was the best out there

Did I claim they were?

They are the most popular for a reason.

In context he asked about street tires. And the difference between the BEST and the Q3 is very very small.

He also asked our opinion, mine has been given. Were talking about two very good sets of tires here.

Sorry if I mis-interprested your "king of the hill" comment. You must have meant there was an "emperor of the hill" or something else above the king.. Next time I'll know that when you say "king of the hill", that you didn't mean the best out there, but that there were others comparble and better than the "king of the hill", or maybe you meant another hill that we weren't talking about. . . .

Not everyone can interpret common sense. All Im doing is mirroring your first post, and agree with it.

whats that statement, sort of like price, stickiness, longevity - pick any two. . . there are some that do all three well, but you want the best, you probably won't get the longest lasting, stickiest and cheapest price. .

I would say the Pirellis SuperCorsa (SC/SP) are probably the "stickiest" tire for in the dry conditions - assuming moderately warm conditions (or ability to get the tire hot). . The Q3's are excellent tires and last longer than the Pirellis' but are not as "sticky" as the Supercorsa's.

Some of the best tires I have used.
Dunlop 211gp and Bridgestone R10
both sets of tires to me had better grip than SC. As far as warming up goes they are really sketchy for a couple of ks from home but I live about 7 ks form the mountains and by the time you get there they are good to go.

stickiest street tire was the question so that leaves out d 211 gp and the sc as they are dot RACE tires.

It's not that I'm too fast for the tires I currently have. I'm just wondering what the stickiest street tire is right now. I'm not concerned with warm up times, longevity, or price. Recently I've tried the Dunlop Q2's on my trackbike, I honestly wasn't impressed. I hear the Q3's are much better. On my S1000RR I've had the Metzeler K3's and currently have Michelin Super Sports. Both are great tires, but I think the Supercorsa's are more sticky. So what are you guys/gals opinions? Remember, I'm talking about tires that don't require warmers.

You should probably read the legal definition of the DOT. DOT tires are road/street legal and thats the qualification that all the tires either fall into (or not fall into). There is no DOT-R specification in motorcycles like say for cars.

Dunlop labels their tires either as DOT certified or not. All their tires are either road legal or not road legal. And Dunlop reps basically say the gpa tires are road legal and actually encourage high performance users to use them. . ..

Is DOT = Depatment of Transport?

Close enough. Department of Transportation.

That's the federal organization of the US that oversees regulation of automobiles, and basically anything to do with highways.

No one can out ride the Q3's on the road, and if you do you should be riding like that on the track.

Q3's are nice, but I get an average of 1800-2000 miles on the street. The Bridgestone RS10 is nice as well, but similar mileage. I have had zero issues with either sliding on the street or having any type of upsetting moment.

I run slicks with warmers on the track, and dial is way back on the street. Even thinking about running some Bridgestone S21 tires next. I would like to get about 4000 miles out of the rear tire.

I like the profile of the Q3 and RS10 the best. I prefer a rounded profile tire as I don't hit full lean often and although the Michelin P3 tire has gone to a rounder profile, it's still a bit "V" shaped for my liking. I went through 12 sets of tires last year between the track and street, and tried a few, and currently have a set of Bridgestone RS10 waiting to go on the 1299 when the OEM tires are done.

DOT Race tires: Pirelli SuperCorsa v2 (NOT the SP that come stock), SC1 compound in the front SC2 compound in the rear.

Slick tires: Pirelli Superbike (NOT the Superbike Pro) SC1 compound in the front and SC2 compound in the rear.

* With slicks you need to use warmers, in addition to using warmers these tires need aggression to get heat into them or the track will suck the heat out of the rubber and the rim. By aggression I mean progressive acceleration at the apex and out and progressive hard braking. It is actually more dangerous to use slicks /w warmers at slower pace than just using the DOT Race Tires (not the stock SuperCorsa SP's).

Just my $0.02

^ what he said. I've been running this exact set-up (DOT) on track for the last few days and I'm very happy. Will try the slicks next time out. Curious to see how the 200/60 rear will change handling...

I am currently running Pirelli Superbike Slicks SC1 front SC2 rear, and yea they don't make a 200/55 tire, only 200/60....I haven't noticed a difference then again I only rode on stock tires once :D

Longevity wise, the rear was roasted in 1.5 track days at Laguna /w SC2 rear. With SC1 rear I'd prob be down to the bottom of the wear marks. SC0, forget it...the 1199 is HARD on rear tires.
