Curious to know how long suits last for people and if advancements in suits over the years are significant enough to warrant a purchase of a new suit (not including airbags)

I purchased a Dainese suit 8 years ago but would want it resized so that there’s more room for the astar airbag to deploy and to fix scuffs from low sides. Is that worthwhile to do or might as well get a new one.

It is very hard for a tailor to add material to make it bigger, easy to cut and shorten to make things fit better. Best to buy a new suit if you're trying to have something airbag compatible. Might as well get an astar airbag compatible suit if you already have an astar airbag.

Get a vest. As far as repairs go, yeah we (racers) have our stuff fixed often. If i replaced a suit every time i crashed i wouldnt be able to afford to race

I did get the vest, hence the need for another suit or a bigger suit.
Fixing is one thing, resizing it to make it larger is another.
Have the suits gotten better over the past ~8 years in terms of protection?

Some suits have aramid or similar sewn in to reinforce the leather in areas likely to be exposed to high abrasion in a crash. I don’t know when manufacturers started doing that for production items, but I think it’s a relatively new feature.

The CE standards would have improved over time, you could compare what the padding and ratings of your current suit is, and see if its worth upgrading to the current standards.

I was just looking at suits over time, they have gotten A LOT better. Even the last 5 years, small things add up quick with protection…

For a custom suit for a decent price, check out bisontrack.com. With airvest compatibility. Cheers

Decided against resizing and fixing up some scrapes which added up to $600. Might as well buy a new suit at this point.
